Bow Wow and Ouch

Road travels and remodeling has done an outstanding job in keeping me from my good ol’ op-ed blog (hope I didn’t lose too many folks). Nearly 5 weeks and many allergic reactions to sheet rock dust ago we started our master bedroom/master bathroom remodel. That should wrap up early next week and then we can finally shower (eeeewwwww) and get some sleep….But what does any of that have to do with the post title you ask? Not too much.

Almost 2 weeks ago we traveled to Kansas to visit parents (mostly) and pick up a new Scottie dog for our family. Zoey is our new 3-year old female that is full of life, energy, and laughter-induced antics…and yes, the hormonal balance remains out of kilter in our home (as it has for many years).

A license to vote…own it

Voting for party primary runoffs are happening next week (in Texas). I am now reminded of that nearly everyday. If it’s not the constant chatter on Facebook, emails, and blogs (and look what I’m doing with this post), it is now the messages left on my home answering machine.

Get this: I have my seated County Judge calling me to influence (I guess because she thinks I’m too stupid to know otherwise) my vote a certain direction…for the Probate Judge of all things. She promises if I vote correctly, her candidate of choice for Probate Judge will make a big impact in my life (probate judges do probates, guardianships, mental health cases, and real estate disputes – hmmm). And she endorsed her candidate after first slinging a few mud balls at his opponent. My County Judge hasn’t a clue that I personally have taken the time to meet the candidate she’s “instructing” me on and can (and will) make up my own voter’s mind.

This only shows to go ya, politics has gotten way out of control. Republicans have the “you’ve got to see it my way or you’re just stupid” political approach, the Democrats play the nauseous “poor poor pitiful us how can you not see it our way you fool” pity card. And only to top all that, voting and voters have lost control. The national political mess is now reaching way down to the local level with my Probate Judge election.

I will first read this book

Instead of fueling the fear for what tomorrow may bring, I will first read this book.

Instead of the incessant spread of political hate, lies, half-truths, and sarcasms, I will first read this book.

Instead of stirring the never-ending sports smack pot between differing fans of favorite universities and pro teams, I will first read this book.

Instead of losing my health over national healthcare, I will first read this book.

The Big TWO

Atta boy Mick! There’s not a whole lot more we could ask for of the past weekend than spending time with you, the day after your birthday, and your Mom and Dad.

Hey y’all. Mick had his 2nd birthday celebration at Christina and Tom’s house. Finger food and presents, lots of laughs and conversations. He had grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, and family friends over to witness, eat, and partake in all the birthday fun.

Zoey

Way too exciting news y’all!

We will soon be the new care providers of 3-year old Scottie (I would say “owners” but it is a Scottie after all and we humans in the same house with one are merely there for a Scottie’s pleasure and convenience :) ).

Her name is Zoey and she comes from an already loving home in Kansas. We are so thankful to her current owner Leah for reaching out for a caring home for Zoey as her life goals are changing and she unfortunately needs to surrender her pal and companion.
