Morning Blossoms

2013 marks 15 years without getting to call her on this day or any other day for that matter...

2013 marks 15 years without me getting to call her on this day, or any other day for that matter…

It is satisfying to know she still has a way of saying "hello" even after all these years.

Moms do love flowers. My mom was no exception. I take comfort knowing she still has a way of saying “hello” even after all these years.

Call your mom, give her hug, plant a perennial flower so she can always make you smile.

I’m all for everyone having a Spring-blooming, perennial flower planted somewhere in the yard…just for Mom. It is a happy Mother’s Day today.

I Think I Will Dance Now

I remember loving this lady’s singing (way) back in high school. So tonight I catch the credits of the movie “The Family That Preys” and the closing song made me pause….”is that?…could it be?…yes it is Gladys and it’s no Midnight Train she’s belting!” Now she’s gone and got me loving her all over again. Thank you lady!

I know, some of you will be thinking I’m so far behind on this song sung some four years ago, huh? Well don’t. It is as much a song for the soul tonight as it was in 2008!

“…Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance….

Hold Up A Minute

Got a tour of The Morris Meditation Garden at the heart center, Harris Methodist Medical Center in Fort Worth (Texas) today...and found a number of oh-so-appropriate Scripture plaques

I was lucky enough to have a personal tour of The Morris Meditation Garden at the heart center, Harris Methodist Medical Center in Fort Worth (Texas) today. I discovered a number of oh-so-appropriate Scripture plaques…

There were probably 10 or so plaques scattered about the garden...they made me pause and let a few moments of the day slip by

….scattered about the garden. 10 or so plaques made me pause and let a few moments of the day slip on by

And the many gurgle-fountains...did I mention my new Canon G15 Point-n-Shoot is now all of 1 week old (not too bad for a rookie with a brand new shooter)

Fog on Sunday

This is what I found after about a 15 minute hike...and well worth the walk in a crisp 35° temperature despite leaving my gloves in the truck.

Look what I found after a 15 minute hike…and well worth the walk in a crisp 35° temperature despite leaving my gloves in the truck.

These two have long reminded of unlikely, yet really good friends....

The Barbershop Quartet Daily Cap(s) (349)

Just as my heart aches for those in Connecticut today, I am reminded of the sadness felt some 15 years ago...it was on this day I lost my Mom. And so to photographed this now 34 year old embrodery she did for me. She knew it then and I still to this day love the sounds of barbershop harmonies. I know you rest in peace Mom.

Just as my heart aches for those in Connecticut today, I am somewhat selfishly reminded of the sadness felt some 15 years ago as it was on this day then my Mom died. In her memory I photographed this treasured 34 year old embroidery she made for me. She knew then and as it is still to this day, I love the sounds of good barbershop quartet harmony. I know you rest in peace Mom and that you take the hands of those innocent victims of the day and welcome them into God’s glory.

The Rather Odd Collection Daily Cap(s) (333)

Good morning my young Heron friend…I’m watchin’ you watchin’ me watchin’ you.

1949 Ford F1 pickup…a beauty of a truck

Can you read my handwriting? (Please, no analysis – this is why I mostly type these days). These are a few notes from this morning’s time management seminar (that I was late to….). Inspired?

The St. Ignatius Daily Cap(s) (331)

One of the doors to the St. Ignatius Academy/Sisters of St. Mary’s in downtown Fort Worth

The Madonna and Child sculpture was created by an unknown artist; a robed and crowned baby Jesus, supported by Mary, stands on a globe with his arm outstretched….

The crowns worn….

The JFK Daily Cap(s) (318)

Some 49 years ago President John F. Kennedy came to Dallas-Fort Worth for an official presidential visit. On thenight before his assassination in Dallas, JFK and the First Lady stayed at the downtown Hilton in Fort Worth. It was there he gave his last public speech….

Last Thursday, the City of Fort Worth dedicated a small urban park next to the Hilton in his honor….

JFK stands in the plaza, larger than life (8′ height bronze statue).

Fort Worth welcomes it’s newest park…with little fanfare yet proud to showcase not only the tragic history, but that of a leader, his hope, and the man.

The Park walls and pavement is adorned with several of his quotes….

Some of them eerily ring true, so close to home….

On the pavement in front of the bronze statue is this quote. Fort Worth has now celebrated their place in presidential history, so what might the future bring?

Lights in the Park trees – symbolism for the Park perhaps?

The Tag Teaming with the FD Daily Cap(s) (317)

From the cell phone camera of the FD today – I’m so incredibly proud of her and the FSIL – comes this photo of the fog rolling in on the Verrazono-Narrows bridge in NYC (connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island)

The two of them paid the bridge toll on their way to yet another day of Hurricane Sandy volunteering for those more dramatically affect than they were…where did she get such gracious, caring, and giving heart? (from her Mom for sure) (FD’s photo that I “sepia’d” for a kind of cool effect, don’t cha think? Hope the FD doesn’t mind the liberties taken with her photo)

Look here what they came upon in route to their place of volunteering – this may literally be a “house” boat for all I know…. (photo by FD)

And their day of volunteering was spent removing sheetrock and gutting the hurricane-damaged basement of someone’s home…(photo by FD)

Back in Texas, my day ended with a photograph of the silverware caddy in the comfort of a well-lighted, warm kitchen….

and the plunger-cup tea steeper for my nightly night cap of white tea…so that (tea) leaves little question to who’s day was more meaningful and fulfilling, agreed?

The Colors of the Day Daily Cap(s) (260)

I’ve often wanted to stop and ask the owner what prompted choosing these particular door colors on this vintage filling station.

Colorful cupcakes, smiles, and expressions at tonight’s BBQ….

At sunset the rain clouds cleared and left us this…(if you look closely there is a commercial jetliner in the upper right corner that can barely be seen – big o’ rainbow!)

The sun setting….

OK, one more…no….actually a second showed up (rainbow that is)

The Sunday NYC Daily Cap(s) (225)

It matters not the size of the camera or the photographer…just as long as the photo is gotten.

this is my landscape architecture photo of the day….it’s a cool spot. The small slivers of green space in this city always amazes me for a multitude of reasons.

Sitting at the Wall Street Bull Sculpture, this guy played the National Anthem over and over and over…he got a buck from me, a smile, and a nod of the head. He did the same back…except for the dollar bill

It’s me and graveyards again….came across this famous gravesite at the Trinity Church (the church that “survived” 9/11 being a couple blocks from Ground Zero and now the sidewalk has the last of the Occupy Wall Street crowd).

I could spend days and days doing nothing other than photographing the neat windows, doors, and building facades of NYC

Attended FD’s matinee performance of “Falling”…she was outstanding, in fact the entire cast did a bang-up job.

I love the bridges of NYC as well…this one is The Williamsburg (and I wasn’t driving BTW)

If anyone has a preconceived idea that NYC is all concrete….well not quite.

NYC cyclists are a creative bunch despite their bike rack craftsmanship being something less than desirable…personal opinion of course

The Brooklyn Flea Market – cool place, wonderful artists, and a couple handfuls of vendors that make you wonder “who buys this stuff?”

Love the NYC street vendors and their character….

This has got to be an Ewok soccer player…no?

History all over the place….one of my favorite authors and wisdom-sayers

And right down the street from the Mark Twain house is the lady’s home that gave us this famous quote….

We did a night-time schooner ride from Pier 62 to the Stature of Liberty…and back. What a cool way to spend a Sunday eve – the Hudson River is quite peaceful at night (or at least this night it was)

We did a midnight stop in Chinatown…everyone ought to give Wo Hop Restaurant (downstairs) a try at least once…anytime of day, but know the midnight crowd is definitely interesting. This is the sign marking the restrooms….

The 5-Minute Daily Cap(s) (191)

These guys just like me I guess…they keep getting in front of my camera

Timeless wrought iron elegance….

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fleeting Moment

Sorry y’all. I got started and didn’t really want to quit on this challenge….

A fleeting moment….

My kids…some 30 years ago. Wow.

FD and FSoIL – wading in a cold stream during Christmas vacation a few years back

My father-in-law while opening his Christmas gifts last year (oh how I hope he doesn’t see this…)

A hot air balloon makes an emergency landing down the street…

An approaching storm

The guys at our 35th high school reunion last fall…oh my how time has fleeted

A brown bear (with a blond strip down her back) in Canada last fall – I was ready to flee in a heartbeat

My brothers and Dad after a shore lunch in Canada last fall (they didn’t know I took this photo…and I’ve often wondered what they were saying to each other)

Bald Eagle looking to snatch something….

A young couple…taking in the moment

Kids at the water’s edge….

A pending happy family reunion at the airport

In passing one should take in the view….

You’ve got to be quick…and lucky sometimes

The respect and silence is humbling….

Another fleeting magic moment…

The Dallas Arboretum Daily Cap(s) (168)

Coneflowers – they are quickly becoming my favorite flower to photograph

Coneflowers – in many different colors and shades

Chihuly glass exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum…

The Dallas (Cowboys) Star…yet they were not a sponsor of the exhibit

My favorite piece….

The exhibit, for the most part, survived the hail storm this past week….

The Dallas Star…a close up look

I bet they are cool at night as well went they’re all lighted up….

Red hands….(six fingers on those hands, but hands none the less)

A twisted mix of colors – this piece looked better up close than from a distance

Colors adrift….

Colors on calm seas….

Nice….

White lilies…nice…again

Sculptures weren’t the only colorful spectacle at the Arboretum today….

Oh yeah…I got a new (my first) Canon 50mm lens today. I think I’m gonna like it just a whole bunch….

The Memorial Daily Cap(s) (149)

A day of miltiary remembrance (Veteran’s Memorial in Hickory Creek Texas)

Remembering (Veteren’s Memorial in Hickory Creek, Texas)…this is the Memorial I designed for the Town in 2010, and donations constructed it in 2011 – this touches me in more ways than I realize.

But nothing touches the heart and soul like spending a day of military remembrance at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery

Families had the opportunity to sit with their fallen loved ones….

And comrades had the opportunity to reach out to those same families….

Never forget….

A day of pride, thankfulness, and sadness…all in one. I had a lump in my throat all day long.

Waiting for the right time….

To perform, with all our national respect, a 21-canon salute….

It was an honor to watch these proud men at such a close proximity….

At attention, after the canon salute….

Somebody needs to help me with knowing these gentlemen and the symbolism (significance) of their colorful hats…

A lifetime of service….

So many ways one can wear (show) their patriotism….

Families got to spend the day with their loved ones and each other

For peace, at peace…..

The Ew-Ah-What Daily Cap(s) (143)

Ew: A Blue Heron flies towards the rising sun – what a wonderful way to start your morning

Ah: I agree with the Heron – this is a great start to the morning

What: Everyone should have a John Deere on the ground, mounted on the wall, and one for the roof…I really wanted to go knock on this guy’s door just to visit with such an obvious personality, but didn’t. But I know where he lives!
