Morning Blossoms

This morning – Mother’s Day – my day lilies bloomed. They hadn’t done that in a few years…

2013 marks 15 years without me getting to call her on this day, or any other day for that matter…

Moms do love flowers. My mom was no exception. I take comfort knowing she still has a way of saying “hello” even after all these years.

I’m all for everyone having a Spring-blooming, perennial flower planted somewhere in the yard…just for Mom. It is a happy Mother’s Day today.

The neighbor-down-the-street’s Prickly Pear is showing a spring awakening

The fish must be “runnin’”! By my count (and mental math) this is nearly 3.2 poles per fisherman…all within arm’s reach or a few steps from each other.

The Princess – a snoot full of dirt from digging in my yard

The Prince turns 3 months old tomorrow…

He is all pup…and all moods. We’re making progress on the house training too (at least I keep telling myself that)

He sometimes gets so tired he just plops over….

Understand that typically I scold the hounds for roughing up my plants, especially when they are just flushing their spring growth, but how can I with this look?

With a Scottie, the ears are suppose to stand straight up…both of them…any time now buddy

And also with the Scottie they dig for varmints…or just maybe they do it just because sometimes….

He was so happy and fun to spend the day with….

He knows his grandpa when he sees him…I know he does!

While working on a historical restoration for the Oakwood Cemetery in Denton, Texas, I not only found myself (again) taking a keen interest in a professional respect for the grounds, but also fascinated by the history of this hallowed place.

This broken headstone was set in concrete – unintentionally, the medallion in the top now doubles as a water bowl for birds and wildlife. Some how I think this would be just fine with the lady named “Tennessee”.

A simple, yet classic marker that has “aged” with character….

I like the the epithet – what else needs to be said?

Marked, yet unmarked grave sites…one using the native stone to mark someone’s resting place in the cemetery. It somehow seems appropriate to me the simplicity of mortality (or immortality) when graves are marked as such. I sat here the longest this morning, letting my imagination run free, and speculate about the lives of these three folks. These folks, unknown to all, truly have been forever embraced by the Lord. This makes me smile and content.

Before Mackie’s appointment with the veterinarian, the Royals had their own version of morning tea on the patio (never mind the dreadful, outstretched garden hose please – terminate the gardener immediately).

The Princess Zoey…sad, in her own way, that our Queen is ailing

My Queen at home this evening. She spent the day at the vet’s struggling with a decrease in kidney function, infection, and dehydration. The bandage on her front leg is an IV – she gets to spend the day with the vet again tomorrow. She isn’t too happy with her Royal subjects (me) right now. Oh geez this lady…she just needs to get well if she can.

A day of miltiary remembrance (Veteran’s Memorial in Hickory Creek Texas)

Remembering (Veteren’s Memorial in Hickory Creek, Texas)…this is the Memorial I designed for the Town in 2010, and donations constructed it in 2011 – this touches me in more ways than I realize.

But nothing touches the heart and soul like spending a day of military remembrance at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery

Families had the opportunity to sit with their fallen loved ones….

And comrades had the opportunity to reach out to those same families….

Never forget….

A day of pride, thankfulness, and sadness…all in one. I had a lump in my throat all day long.

Waiting for the right time….

To perform, with all our national respect, a 21-canon salute….

It was an honor to watch these proud men at such a close proximity….

At attention, after the canon salute….

Somebody needs to help me with knowing these gentlemen and the symbolism (significance) of their colorful hats…

A lifetime of service….

So many ways one can wear (show) their patriotism….

Families got to spend the day with their loved ones and each other

For peace, at peace…..

Work: meeting notes and doodles from yesterday’s brainstorming…dang near had the project designed by the time we got finished, or so it seemed (I’ve got more – I am so out of practice with handwriting – dam you iPad – and sketching)

Work: figuring how we might get that boardwalk rebuilt above the flood line…and out of reach to those dern water snakes. And yes, one should always know where the “duck standing area” is in your life…

I know…you guys are probably getting tired of all the turkey pictures, but this morning these two, I swear, were dancing for me. It’s probably the same two that were singing for me a couple days ago. Regardless, let it be known here and now that anyone who dances for me will at least get the top Limeyfish post-a-day billing. So if you can, please enjoy the series of 12 consecutive pictures of these two Tom’s strutting their stuff in a manly way just for me. It was definitely their defining stage moment; their showtime and time to show; their song and dance for anyone willing to pause a moment and watch; their foggy morning romancing of the hens. It had to have been…I just know it! I am much too aware that of the age, looks, and disposition of yours truly, it certainly does not warrant any kind of courtship…even one from one turkey (or two) to another turkey.
