The day started with showers and cool weather. Sometimes you need to just slow down and reflect on the pace of the day….
My deer (dear) buddies didn’t know it was me…cuze I got me a new truck
But then I heard them say ” oh! It’s you….again. Where you been lately?”
Pelicans in flight…one day I will get close enough to focus on their eyes and/or beaks
And then sometimes you just need a good fire in the fireplace to cap off the night. (that and a two-finger shot of Glenfiddich)
These four Tom’s tried to divert my attention from the hens by strutting away from the group in a defensive march…”don’t worry guys, I’m not after your women”

It’s done y’all…The 2012 Daily Cap(s) is finished with this post. It has been a family affair…with my own and my many friends down by the lake.
Over the course of the year, I actually pushed a shutter release button more than 50,000 times with 5 different cameras. My index finger is in traction now. (This is my favorite backup camera…a FugiFilm FinePix S4000).
And my left eye needs to be propped open most of the time these days. Here’s my preferred weapon of choice throughout this entire adventure (Canon 60D with a Tamron 70-300 zoom, Canon F1.4 50mm lens, and a few other lenses and filters). Not a day went bye without this guy being a friend, and having a healthy love-hate relationship with her.
It’s been a challenging year that found a need to “push hard” past many a door along the way….and had a blast doing just that!
Happy New Year you guys! Thanks for staying with me through all this! See ya in 2013….

The Swallows love the mangled barbed wire in the trailer, except when I get too close…
For all things grains, crops, seeds, and harvest, the COOP has been the farmer’s go-to place throughout the Great Plains for decades, as this old truck would surely tell if asked….
With the first frost having already come knocking and winter bears down (despite being 72 degrees today), the remnants of a Kansas sunflower stubbornly continues it survival vigilance against the inevitable…

On the High Plains if a tree wants to grow wherever it takes root, she usually doesn’t get much argument from the land owner.
This is the first time I’ve witnessed a pelican in my corner of this lake…he seems to be enjoying the company of the Blue Heron (or was he looking to steal a meal?)
…and he was curious about the other shoreline birds as well – he’s just the friendly sort I guess.

I these guys literally came marching up the bank without a care in the world….
…until they saw the likes of me (dang, but kind of cool, slow shutter speed – talk about being camera un-ready)
OK…I know….what a Limeyfish.com post without a “fisherman-on-the-shoreline-at-sunset” photo, right?
If it isn’t full, it’s pert-en-near this morning….it still made the tides large on the east coast
The sky begins to glow….I’d like to say these are clouds from the Hurricane but I doubt it

But some birds hold their position and simply take in the morning. I text’d FD this morning in NYC after seeing this sunrise coming, with a sense all was well with her and FSIL…and it was
Sorry gang. After taking 700 pictures of the FGs over a 3-day weekend, I must have been creatively tuckered out…kind of like this morning’s sunrise
Vultures surely have a good reason for their existence, but i have yet to discover it (not that I deserve to know or anything) except for a decent silhouette photo every now and then.

I have designed many a fountain in my career, but there is sometimes a whole lot to be said about the goodness of simple-stupid construction and water effects that just squirt….
Most all the ornamental grasses are blooming around here….
Coming full circle…..
Yes, I know the photo is dark and dreary and borderline focused, but look closely if you can…this Blue Jay (I was hoping for Woody the Woodpecker, but no) has a nut of some kind in his beak!
I love what the first 48° morning of the fall does for the ducks on/at the lake…splashing around, having a good time, in formation even if not flying, all heading the same direction as a team….
Then, as if on cue, they do an about-face and head off in the other direction….ohhhh and some – the rebels in the bunch – begin to get restless….
They begin to scatter and everybody gets all stirred up….and just like that (finger snap now), they’re off!
And sure enough, my Scissortail buddy just watches all this quackiness….
He bops around from perch to perch until he too says “enough” and takes off, leaving me pointing a lens into the bright morning sunrise
The evening and sunset highlights a few way-cool clouds (and yes, that’s me driving down the freeway taking pictures – don’t tell me insurance agent please)
A beautiful sunset, from the same vantage point where the ducks were frolicking this morning…(I love the “folds” in the clouds)

A sneeze-maker (actually this native Goldenrod’s pollen is not near as potent as the crud that comes from ragweed, Johnsongrass, and the like)….
A guy dedicated to the sport…it was 30° cooler today than yesterday, and he’s out on the lake
These Scissortail Flycatchers are quickly becoming a favorite of mine to just sit, watch, chuckle, and snap pictures at them….
This guy has the longest tail, and he leaps tall buildings in a single bound….
And he knew his tail made him special too….
What in the world kind of dance is this? This Heron was “this close” to taking flight
It was like he was just sitting there knowing I’d show up to take his picture….
Dang vultures….
Hawk-eye….
Wonder how this conversation went….
From the stop at a stop light: this hawk must have been stalking a field mouse or rat ’cause he could was caring less of the 6 lanes of traffic buzzing by
From the Interstate overpass: I’m not sure whether this view is the front yard or back yard of these apartments. Regardless, how would you like the AC units right outside, and I mean right outside the bedroom windows? Think they may have had a copper theft problem here?
From a tailgating: Yup…HE is definitely good!
I’m gonna try to get a better picture tomorrow…want to see how it turns out in an earlier morning light. Thank heavens for my Tamron 70-300mm lens. I won’t push my luck getting too close to this beast.
The first of what should be many migrating in the coming weeks….
