The Memorial Daily Cap(s) (149)

A day of miltiary remembrance (Veteran’s Memorial in Hickory Creek Texas)

Remembering (Veteren’s Memorial in Hickory Creek, Texas)…this is the Memorial I designed for the Town in 2010, and donations constructed it in 2011 – this touches me in more ways than I realize.

But nothing touches the heart and soul like spending a day of military remembrance at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery

Families had the opportunity to sit with their fallen loved ones….

And comrades had the opportunity to reach out to those same families….

Never forget….

A day of pride, thankfulness, and sadness…all in one. I had a lump in my throat all day long.

Waiting for the right time….

To perform, with all our national respect, a 21-canon salute….

It was an honor to watch these proud men at such a close proximity….

At attention, after the canon salute….

Somebody needs to help me with knowing these gentlemen and the symbolism (significance) of their colorful hats…

A lifetime of service….

So many ways one can wear (show) their patriotism….

Families got to spend the day with their loved ones and each other

For peace, at peace…..

The Ew-Ah-What Daily Cap(s) (143)

Ew: A Blue Heron flies towards the rising sun – what a wonderful way to start your morning

Ah: I agree with the Heron – this is a great start to the morning

What: Everyone should have a John Deere on the ground, mounted on the wall, and one for the roof…I really wanted to go knock on this guy’s door just to visit with such an obvious personality, but didn’t. But I know where he lives!

Thunderbolts and Lightning

A song that every Dad should teach his children to sing , regardless of their age or seating accomodations, while in the car or anywhere the mood strikes…

The Sketchy Notes Daily Cap(s) (130)

Work: meeting notes and doodles from yesterday’s brainstorming…dang near had the project designed by the time we got finished, or so it seemed (I’ve got more – I am so out of practice with handwriting – dam  you iPad – and sketching)

Work: figuring how we might get that boardwalk rebuilt above the flood line…and out of reach to those dern water snakes. And yes, one should always know where the “duck standing area” is in your life…

Church: just something to keep in mind and in perspective (first line – if you can read my handwriting)….

The Lifecycle Daily Cap(s) (127)

My front yard Desert Willow shows a bountiful life being in bloom and a vitality in setting a seed head.

My back yard Mexican Plum, I fear, is showing signs of a good life coming to an end as I had to remove yet another dead limb today

The Morning Daily Cap(s) (125)

I can handle this wake up call any morning it so chooses…

Even the shoreline rocks like a good sunrise…hey wait a minute! Where are all the fishermen this morning?

The Botanic Daily Cap(s) (124)

Fort Worth Botanic Gardens: a common and frequent guest of the Park

Fort Worth Botanic Gardens: a rainbow of “wild” colors

Fort Worth Botanic Gardens: complimentary (colors) in nature

Fort Worth Botanic Gardens: I finally gave up and left before this guy did….

The OKC Daily Cap(s) (122)

Coming back from Oklahoma State University, I decided it was well past time I stop and visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial, a unique National Park that touches everyone that stops by...

The Park Rangers were aplenty and they interacted graciously with the visitors, rightfully so....

The longer you're there, the more you simply wonder "why"....

The chairs - both adult and child size - puts a lump in your throat....

A very respectful design, kept spotless (didn't even see a cigarette butt on the ground), maintenance is impeccable..and then there was the setting: appropriately so, numerous church steeples can be seen from all areas of the Park.

What the designers chose to leave behind gives a sense of the unimaginable violence on that April morning in 1995...

And folks that just sat, and made you too contemplate and memorialize the event that gave credence to the great need for this place....

The Red Daily Cap(s) (117)

A female Cardinal precariously perched on a flimsy wildflower stem yet singing her heart out to me this morning....

You've seen this plant on this blog before: Hot Lips Salvia waiting for bees and butterflies and standing tall for me this morning....

I'm not sure whether it's the simplicity of the photo, the color contrast, or the story that surely goes along with this abandoned chair that caught my attention this morning....

OK, so maybe there is ever a slight hint of red somewhere in the sunrise this morning... (squint and you might see it)

The If You Build It Daily Cap(s) (112)

It all starts at Home....

Sometimes the base paths you travel are blocked...

It's good to step out of the box and assess the big-picture situation...

And then you suck it up, decide to run the base paths, and simply plow ahead....

Ya never know when folks just might be willing to help keep your hits from going foul....

But you will need to put the ball in play to get to first base...(these have been a few pics of the 4-field baseball complex our company designed - it has been my turn of late for the construction administration)

The Now That Was A Good Morning Daily Cap(s) (102)

One by sea, two by land...wait, that's supposed to be the other way around isn't it?

Hey you guys...you guys...you got a bite! Guys? Yo...Guys? Hello?

Rise and shine...through the clouds and fog

It's been a long time since a ewww-ahhhh sunrise happened around these parts. This morning's was the closest we've had in a while.

The sunrise lost its ewww-ahhh after about 3 1/2 minutes....but it was those first 3 1/2 minutes that were pretty cool!

Lo and behold, out of nowhere...these guys showed up and sat down and then walked away with a basket in hand. It was the same balloon and crew that landed two doors down (in the street) from my house a few months ago.

The Dances With Turkeys Daily Cap(s) (100)

I know…you guys are probably getting tired of all the turkey pictures, but this morning these two, I swear, were dancing for me. It’s probably the same two that were singing for me a couple days ago. Regardless, let it be known here and now that anyone who dances for me will at least get the top Limeyfish post-a-day billing. So if you can, please enjoy the series of 12 consecutive pictures of these two Tom’s strutting their stuff in a manly way just for me. It was definitely their defining stage moment; their showtime and time to show; their song and dance for anyone willing to pause a moment and watch; their foggy morning romancing of the hens. It had to have been…I just know it! I am much too aware that of the age, looks, and disposition of yours truly, it certainly does not warrant any kind of courtship…even one from one turkey (or two) to another turkey.

The Lake Daily Cap(s) (97)

Is it...a family that fishes together, stays together (despite the smell)?

Is it...the family with the most (and biggest) poles, catch the most fish (or at least look the best in not doing so)?

New foliage on an immature Honeylocust catches the last bit of setting sun

Looky here who's on the run from me...my turkey buddy (or perhaps he is my buddy that's a turkey)

You know they know who I am (or have seen me enough times) when they stop 30 yards from my truck and sing (gobble) a duet for me. That was pretty cool despite them being just a bit "pitchy".

The Peers, Colleagues, and Damn Them Convention Center Carpets Daily Cap(s) (96)

Leave it to a landscape architect to have such a handsome lime sherbet jacket (the patterned purple shirt up close was even better)...sorry for the lack of focus gang, but I bet you can get the gist.

Meet my first boss out of college, Bill...he's still wonders why he ever hired me

My dear friend and former champion rollerskater Traci (we grew up professionally together don't cha know) enjoying the figure 8 railroad tracks found in the convention center carpet

Who designs this? When does the inspiration hit? What kind of music do they listen to? Are they Facebook likable?

What is it about convention center carpets that fascinate me? (see above pic questions)

The Mushy Daily Cap(s) (89)

It's what I call a "mush" sunrise...low clouds, haze, fog, and probably ozone make for all the morning colors kind of mush together. Some days you have to really work at seeing (and appreciating) the beauty in what's given. I like "mushy" sunrises.

This Jake has been out gobbling solo the past couple of mornings. That's a pretty sure bet (the) Tom isn't ready to give up his rule around these woods just yet. So I'm guessing young Jake's life is kind of "mushy" right now. Yet he still manages to offer up a colorful pose along the cool-looking tree line.

The Botanical Daily Cap(s) (86)

From an evening stroll at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens: a sugar maple fruit

By any other name....

Saw few birds, but plenty of bees

A favorite tree of mine in bloom (Texas Buckeye)...does it look like a bunny sticking its tongue out to any one else?

A little bit of old, a little bit of new....

Reaching for the last of the day's sunlight...

Saturday Down By the Lake

Indian Paintbrush

Just hanging out, standing on a log, having a conversation, taking in the morning sunshine...no big deal

I swear, these guys never stop fishing and eating...and they stay so dag gum skinny!

A Saturday morning demonstration

The morning dew on a spider web

Yup, my pant knees got wet for this shot

My turkey friends trying to sneak by unnoticed this morning...my good friend Doyt got to meet/greet them with me this morning.

The Fisherman Daily Cap(s) (84)

Wonder what the morning conversation was..."whadda mean you didn't bring the donuts?"

Fishing for fish so they can go fishing (why do I like to watch these guys do this...and end up saying the same thing over and over again?)

With all the rain of late, the fishing pier has also become the wading pier.

The hope and wishes of youth is bound to bring a smile to your face, right?

Oh the lengths fisherman will go to just to catch a fish. Poles in a bucket on a submerged picnic table, pole on the bank, and of course in order to let the little boy in each of us (men) out, ya gotta have one in hand so you can wade out in waist deep water for the cast

But they always get an enviable great show first thing in the morning....

The Setting Sun Daily Cap(s) (82)

Rather odd clouds over downtown Fort Worth tonight

Cool cloud layering over Alliance Airport tonight

The horizon aglow south of Denton tonight

The last glimpse of sunlight at the University of North Texas campus tonight

The Lincoln Daily Cap(s) (79)

I met my newest, bestest pal today. This is Lincoln, my all-of-24-hour old grandson. He pooped twice, peed twice, and got feed once. Good to know what is going in is coming out a-ok. All is well - they go home tomorrow (Tuesday).

Like riding a bicycle....

Sat with two of my favorites...FS and now my FGS. A couple of champs these two are!

The FDIL was a champ as well - she's doing well, way-proud of Lincoln, and graciously let us play with the kiddo most of the afternoon and evening, knowing we probably were contributing to a much-anticipated long night of floor pacing with the little man.

G-Momma, new Papa, and Lincoln enjoying a moment on the couch...
