I Think I Will Dance Now

I remember loving this lady’s singing (way) back in high school. So tonight I catch the credits of the movie “The Family That Preys” and the closing song made me pause….”is that?…could it be?…yes it is Gladys and it’s no Midnight Train she’s belting!” Now she’s gone and got me loving her all over again. Thank you lady!

I know, some of you will be thinking I’m so far behind on this song sung some four years ago, huh? Well don’t. It is as much a song for the soul tonight as it was in 2008!

“…Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance….

Fun with Fallon

OK y’all. Here’s a change-up post from the The Daily Cap(s). Jimmy Fallon  is just a funny guy, and talented in so many ways….

If you can, give your political attitudes a break for three minutes 21 seconds and enjoy this for just being funny several times over:

I’ve always like both genres of this music…now I’ve got them mashed! Who wants to form a quartet with me?

This one is a hoot…and it brings back several childhood musical instrument memories too boot (I think I could have played anywhere in the band had I saved the “toys”):

Some loving that goes on and on

OK. So I will admit…I’m a sucker for a good love song.

And Lionel Richie’s “Endless Love” sung with Diana Ross has always been a favorite.

Like you – you can admit it, that’s fine – I know the lyrics by heart.

Yup, I know the harmonies and both the guy and girl parts. I can sing the song (not very well mind you) acapella, or with Lionel and Diana if need be. Either way it looks to be, and sounds like someone is getting all glazey-eyed…

I now know, with my youthful courtship attempts I was always (and still am for that matter) more romantic and charming in my imagination than I was in real life. These songs did not help schmuse the girls, but it was fun trying! So here we go…can’t we all just sing along?

Now dang if I don’t have two more versions to sing with from even more favorite artists. I’m not yet sure which version I like better…don’t think I will pick for a while.

So if you hear really bad singing, along with really good singing, coming from the other room, that would be me (the really bad singing) giving it the good ol’ romantic try (with the really good video singing). Please show a little patience while I give this new harmony stuff a tone and pitch. (No worries – it will not be “endless” suffering).

I wonder if Diana Krall sings this song? hmmmmmmmm….

The Late Daily Cap (42)

I am yesterday-late because of computer issues, learning, and just because….

So there I sat...thinking there is plenty of cameras around this place to photograph the kids...yet no one thought about taking pictures of birthday party photographers taking pictures of the birthday party partiers...that is until this picture presented itself in front of my lens.

The Daily Cap in Peril

So last night I got an iMac – the smart alec FS asked whether Mr. Gates knew about this. It was a decision mostly made due to something about a having 98% full PC hard drive, enduring a lengthy (and frightful) “windows startup repair” exercise run the night before, and a mouse that no longer moused…

This morning, after re-edge-u-ma-cating myself in keyboard keystrokes to make software work, I started the process of “migrating” my iTunes from the old to the new computer. You think I have enough music?

With this exercise in computerese, my The Daily Cap photo may be delayed today y’all…but wait, this may be my “The Daily Cap” today – hmmmmmmmm

The Daily Cap (40)

And if I remember it right, that 'Ol' Blue Eyes" song goes: "when we're out together, chomping cheeky-monkey to cheeky-monkey". OK so maybe I don't remember the words exactly, but I bet it matters little to these butt-to-butt Longhorns...and the tune can still stay the same

It is well

Funny thing happened on the way to the church the other day.

It started with…oh wait, first a lead in: A typical Sunday morning routine of mine when driving to church is to plug my iPod (iPhone actually) to the truck stereo and get to singing with a playlist simply labeled “Sunday”. Of the hundred or so gospel/Christian music owned, the songs in this playlist are my favorites. This list numbers 24 songs as of today, and is populated with “standards of the faith” as much as it is with more contemporary songs that stir my spiritual soul.

The Daily Cap (15)

With so much going on at daybreak - geese flying, fishermen fishing, the sun a rising, a chilly nip to the morning air - am I the only one that likes to, as the day awakens and a sunrise warms your face, plug in the headphones and listen to the "String Quintet In e Major: Minuet"? Oh yeah, see there, I figured as much....

To be jolly

Now if you just so happen to watch the video, and you don’t catch yourself smiling, then I’ll come see you to massage that hardened heart of yours. It is, after all, the season to be jolly. So be it! Stop it with the political moaning, employment groaning, life-is-not-fair bellyaching, and the unsociable Facebooking for but a few minutes…and sing a Christmas song, for crying out loud, that might make others smile for all the right Godly reasons.

We Will Remember

Just when I figured I had heard most of the standards of the faith, and most of the popular Christian Gospel theses days sang and/or performed at church, Denton Bible throws one at me this morning an inspiration that I’ve been singing all day:

I will say I prefer Kendall (leading the choir), our 3 soloists, and the 50-60 folks in the Denton Bible Choir singing their version. It gets the hair on our arms standing up and it makes even the worst singer a part of the choir for nearly 5 whole minutes!
