Peat Dunyvey, the workings on being a Prince
Prince What’s His Name
For this Prince of mine I have considered many a names:
Barclay, Gowan, Callum, Toran, Margadale, Marcus, Laine, Innes, Nachton, Lyall,
Dunyvey, Tain, Barley, Haggis, Glenburgie
And considered many suggestions:
Peat, Ozzy, Fergus, Farquhar, Shamus, Duncan, Dexter, McTavish, Cosby, Milton, Angus,
Hamish, Ollie, Piper, Charming, Edward
I have a name in mind….
If you think of some other name, leave a comment. Keep in mind the Princess as our two Scotties will be called “Zoey and _________, the Royal Heirs”. This Prince will be named by sunrise tomorrow. But I give y’all an opportunity to chime in with a poll of a narrowed list:
The Prince Has Arrived
Spring Already?

Surprised? Nawww, not these two youngens…the mild temps had them a bit playful and with the Scottie Princess Zoey whimpering at them, at my side, gave me a momentary pose of curiosity to capture….

…that is until they go and do something like this! What did they think this was, Valentine’s Day or something? The Princess and I just looked at each other in disbelief after this oh-so-brief public display of affection (trust me on this – Scotties know these types of things should not be a common, every day occurrence).

Scottie News
It is with much sadness that the former First Dog, Barney Bush has died. Because of my love of Scotties, the Bush’s loss is heartfelt; because of my own Mackie’s death 5 months ago, I know the memories will soon overtake the sadness. RIP Barney knowing you had one heck of a dog run for eight years.
Losing a beloved pet is always difficult; losing a Scottie dog gives reason for all Scotties to aroooo in mournful harmony.
And it is with much excitement that I announce our Princess Zoey, here a before and after photo of her day at the spa…

The Princess Zoey, with her winter coat still on….notice the tinge of redheadedness most noticeable on her chest and legs?

The Princess always is relaxed (or is it stress exhaustion?) after a spa day, and always a bit shy (embarrassed?) with her buzz-cut “nakedness”…but all is better (forgotten) after a short nap.
…will soon be joined by a Prince, a handsome fellow (I assume) whose name has yet to be decided.
YES, we get a new Scottie pup in one month! Pictures will follow soon.
Sundown with the iPhone
These pictures from yesterday aren’t too bad considering the pace of a brisk evening walk, a quickly draining iPhone battery, and an impatient leashed Scottish Terrier (that would be none other than the Princess Zoey). I used an HDR app on the iPhone to take these photos.

If you look real close – and I mean put your nose on the screen close – you can make out the sliver of moon right over the tree tops
Ya know, maybe I should sell my big cameras and use my iPhone camera more often (yeah right). :)
The Weather It’s Christmas Daily Cap(s) (351)

Nine days before Christmas and its 75° – Frosty has lost his hat, turned his back to the street, broke his arm, and longs for snow on a Christmas tree that is outside the house….

Wait a minute…aren’t these guys supposed to be in Mexico or someplace further south about this time of year? Don’t hold me to it but I think these butterflies are juvenille “Painted Lady”.

I’m thinking Zoey should have snow balls hanging from her beard this time of year instead of pine needles….

The Sunset (sort of) Thursday Daily Cap(s) (243)

The Princess Zoey – she always makes a wonderful pose. Here, we’rve got a black-haired Scottie in near-sunset subdued light, yet the whites of her eyes are still so expressive….

Dang wasps start to gather near sunset (and sunrise for that matter) – I’ve sprayed this nest 4 times. Tomorrow I might set the tree ablaze to rid my backyard fo these pesky insects. Oh wait! Aerial spraying for West Nile starts tomorrow evening – I’ll spare the tree another day to see what happens with that….

Thursday night…Texas high school football…at sundown! I have the best seat in the house at home games – I’m in the press box and tonight started my 13th, or is it my 14th season as the stadium PA voice? Even having an east-facing view, you can tell the thick cloud cover didn’t give me a whole lot to work with tonight had I been after a “real” sunset photo. BTW, we won!

The Mackie Teachings Daily Cap(s) (204)
We said goodbye to our beloved Scottie this evening. And with that I reflect on what this small, 27-pound bundle of fun taught me over the past 12 years. Throughout my life I’ve had many wonderful dogs, but none have been as special to me as Mackie. She will be forever missed, remembered, understood, and appreciated as such:
- Patience is for the Owner, not the Scottie
- Persistence will win out
- Ornery is fun to be around
- Straddling a basketball can be used to sooth a tummy ache, or it can simply be for your entertainment
- A Scottie can pass a vocabulary test
- “Bye-Bye” means “Go-Go”
- We all should go for a walk and enjoy it as much
- Certain people (and dogs) come into your life that are very special (thanks also to Ms. Sarah & Mr. Quinn for being part of Mackie’s caring Royal Family circle)
- Family may taste good, but biting them makes you feel bad (she really was sorry Tyler)
- Take a few minutes to clear the goobers from your eyes
- Cashews are good
- Stretchin’ does the joints good
- Roll over and let someone scratch you tummy every once in a while
- If you sit up pretty, good things will happen to you
- “Goodness Sakes” is sometimes all you need to hear
- Sharing the AC vent in the car is not always an option for others
- Really? You have to ask? Who doesn’t want a treat?
- When played, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” makes us all stop what we’re doing and sing along
- Find one toy amongst the many, and like it best (“Dino” was Mac’s)
- Eat more watermelon
- “Come here…I’ll scratch you’re butt” (believe me when I say that was a term of endearment, not to mention a daily ritual)
- Being low to the ground is not such a bad thing after all
- Whisper good secrets in my ear, but tell me no lies
- Airplanes are never welcome to land in your back yard
- Wasp strings are annoying
- You can never have enough squeaky toys
- Bark until you have the whole neighborhood’s attention
- Pooping and peeing on the doctor’s lawn before your appointment says how you really feel
- Your own bed gives a great deal of comfort and security
- Give hugs generously
- Motorcyle engines are way too loud
- Barking at the school bus each morning doesn’t mean I don’t like kids
- Be a silly girl often
- Find solace where you sit, and enjoy every sitting
- “No Mac. It’s choc-o-late…you can’t have any”
- When you speak, raising up off the ground does help emphasize your point
- Leather shoes are meant to be scuffed, as are pant cuffs meant to be torn when you’re happy to be walking along side your best friend
- Wag your tail and people will smile at you
- Who needs a paper shredder when you’ve got a Scottie?
- Always expect fresh water
- Show your excitement…hippity-hop
- “Come on…it’s 5:30. Time to get up, Tim”
- There is no such thing as reserved seating when it comes to the living room furniture
- Low windows and wide sills on which to rest your chin makes watching the world go by so much easier
- “Gotta go” means “I expect you back here soon”
- Be a good girl
- “Medicine” means “peanut butter”
- Whether it’s a window pane or a car window, both deserve a nose print or two
- If you don’t like Mr. Kitty hanging around, by all means let him know
- Go ahead and use your paw when you need some attention
- Everyone should help water the plants
- If you poop in the backyard, then you should always kick backwards to cover it with dirt
- Keeping telling yourself “when this bath is over I will get to shake, and then I will feel better”
- The (dog) door is the gateway to your castle…guard it well
- Go outside whenever you can
- Know as one generation stepped forward during a time of loss, so too will the next
- You’re the Queen, you always will be in charge
Mackie leaves us with wonderful memories of a companion, friend, and lovable member of our family. Had she been anything less, her passing would be much easier. As she did for me so many times before, she would comfort the sadness in my heart, and want it to be short lived. And that it will, because don’t you know I have many-a-picture of her to bring back a smiling memory. So long baby girl. Aroooo!
I have written on this blog so often of Mackie, but these are my favorite: The Queen Poses, Scottie Takes Flight, and Queen of Scots
I’m letting this post serve as my Daily Cap(s) today – this was Mackie early this afternoon, the last photo I took of her:
Mackie is Aroooo-ing aloud
The Scottie Queen Mackie spent the day at home today, that is after first spending an hour at the vet’s getting blood work checked this morning.
Those internal organs are being somewhat ornery, letting Mac’s liver function get back to “normal”, yet keeping us concerned for her kidneys (their behavior, much like a typical Scottie, remains abnormally “high”).
She is looking much better, acting a wee bit more like the Mac of old, and thankfully still has her Scottie-ness, although it has been a bit dampened.
Regardless, she indulged me with her patience this evening….
Thanks everyone that has asked about, hoped and prayed for, and those blog followers that have patiently tolerated my Queen posts the past few days.
Now, for crying out loud, let there be other photos taken in the coming days….
