Another Indian Blanket - some also call this "Firewheel". Both, In think, are appropriately named

Morning Blossoms

This morning – Mother’s Day – my day lilies bloomed. They hadn’t done that in a few years…

2013 marks 15 years without getting to call her on this day or any other day for that matter...

2013 marks 15 years without me getting to call her on this day, or any other day for that matter…

It is satisfying to know she still has a way of saying "hello" even after all these years.

Moms do love flowers. My mom was no exception. I take comfort knowing she still has a way of saying “hello” even after all these years.

Call your mom, give her hug, plant a perennial flower so she can always make you smile.

I’m all for everyone having a Spring-blooming, perennial flower planted somewhere in the yard…just for Mom. It is a happy Mother’s Day today.

Here Comes Spring

Hang on while I look this up (I really should know it without having to do that)

The neighbor-down-the-street’s Prickly Pear is showing a spring awakening

The fish must be “runnin’”! By my count (and mental math) this is nearly 3.2 poles per fisherman…all within arm’s reach or a few steps from each other.

Thursday Morning Finds

Went for a walk with the Princess Zoey this morning...she gave me a somewhat classic Scottie silhouette

Went for a walk with the Princess Zoey this morning (as usual)…she gave me a somewhat classic Scottie silhouette pose (not like usual)

This is not supposed to be happening this early in the year....

This is not supposed to be happening this early in the year….

But it's kind of purdy....

But it’s kind of purdy….

And The Princess doesn't mind the pleasant weather each morning.....

The Dandelion Daily Cap(s) (323)

A dandelion in the backyard is annoyingly dropping seeds for next spring….

But it still makes for a great picture….

Even got the poor-man’s macro filters out for the close-ups….

And then I started looking around, only to find other dandelions shedding their seeds across the backyard….

Saved the best for last…I’m OK with these guys doing their thing in my yard when they give me this kind of show! I’ll deal with your offspring come next April….

The Denton Daily Cap(s) (320)

Spent the day in Denton (Texas) today…this Canna was singing to me: “I will survive….”

One of the guys in the office came running back to me this afternoon and simply said “Look!”. I did, said “Oh!”, and took a picture….

And by the time I got outside the office building, I had this sky to photograph….

Wait a minute…would you hire the sign company with a sign in need to a sign?

The Natural Daily Cap(s) (284)

Ready to bust open (with allergens)….

I have designed many a fountain in my career, but there is sometimes a whole lot to be said about the goodness of simple-stupid construction and water effects that just squirt….

Most all the ornamental grasses are blooming around here….

Coming full circle…..

Yes, I know the photo is dark and dreary and borderline focused, but look closely if you can…this Blue Jay (I was hoping for Woody the Woodpecker, but no) has a nut of some kind in his beak!

The Sneezy-Fishy-Scissory Daily Cap(s) (280)

A sneeze-maker (actually this native Goldenrod’s pollen is not near as potent as the crud that comes from ragweed, Johnsongrass, and the like)….

A guy dedicated to the sport…it was 30° cooler today than yesterday, and he’s out on the lake

These Scissortail Flycatchers are quickly becoming a favorite of mine to just sit, watch, chuckle, and snap pictures at them….

This guy has the longest tail, and he leaps tall buildings in a single bound….

And he knew his tail made him special too….

The Flowered Daily Cap(s) (276)

A lovely shade of Hibiscus

Sunflowers….again?

A lovely shade of Pentas….

Willowleaf Sunflowers to be exact…my new favorite sunflower…a bit leggy but a favorite nonetheless.

Who’s that crawling out of the lovely shade of Althea blossom?

The Bumbling ‘Daily Cap(s) (263)

The Bumble Bees were buzzing all around this morning. And for the life of me, I could not get them in focus unless they held real still….

Yeah right, that didn’t happen with this bunch….Watch out! Incoming at the camera guy! Arrrgggghhh!

But Hey! the sunflowers are quite nice, yes? (even the spent and bug-eaten ones)

The Down By The Lake Daily Cap(s) (259)

It looks like this tree has been through a lot….

This time of year the blooms can be found only on a few plants….

Now where did I put my native plants book?

Not all fish caught are kept or thrown back….

The Winged and Dancing Daily Cap(s) (255)

Standing in the morning sunshine…not having a car in the world nor reason to go to work

Out for the morning gobble….\

Still pollinating, even this late in the season….

And these guys…they were just entertaining. Dancing in front of the Wendy’s, entertaining the commuters stopped at the intersection. I smiled at these young kids having a grand time, I laughed knowing how much fun they were having….

The Fence Row Daily Cap(s) (254)

Thistle in the fence row….

The out-of-focus backside of a sunflower….

Really not liking the” limey” color background given by the “super vivid” setting on the new pocket camera…but the bees captured in mid-air/flight are kind of cool.

The Garden Variety Daily Cap(s) (246)

(What I call ‘Mom’s hummingbird’) From my backyard….

(Lantana) From the neighbor’s garden….

(Glass sculpture) From Rita’s backyard deck….

The Naturally A Bit Political Daily Cap(s) (238)

My home county has decided to aerial spray for the West Nile virus-carrying mosquito this coming week. I fear these guys, along many other good bugs, will be adversely affected by what may be a political overreaction. So today I got out before the insecticide gets all over everything.

Day hike at the Coppell Nature Center was a discovery of several unknowns….

Good thing I (aerial) sprayed my person for bugs, spiders, and chiggers…and the wasps and grasshoppers came after me as well (damn them hornets). I’m calling the County on Monday – maybe while they’re going after the West Nile they can kick up the dose of insecticide and kill all those pests that were an inconvenient nuisance on my nature walk today.

Sometimes the sunlight peeked through the trees just right….

I am usually challenged with photographing yellow flower well…maybe all the shade helped today.

Hey wait a minute! I know what these guys are!

See what a little bit of rain can do….

Night fishing….

Life is good!

The About The Countryside Daily Cap(s) (231)

Aged and weathered to perfection….

A Stonehenge of native Texas stone (a front yard in Pilot Point TX)

I think this is a wild garlic….

And I think this is just puuurrrdy…..

They don’t make benches like this anymore, do they?

An old fence post surrounding a cemetery (in Aubrey TX)

Somebody tell me this is a cool find….this is the 1500 which should be a late 50′s, early 60′s model (British made automobile)

Dang them grasshoppers anyway…who do they think they are playing ‘King of the Fence Post’?

The Park Daily Cap(s) (206)

yellow growies at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens

Selecting a project’s stone color and pattern….all in a day’s hard work

Petals Wide Open….

Standing proud – reminds me of a church choir….

Nothing beats having a teak bench in the middle of the park….

The Saturday Morn Daily Cap(s) (196)

A Scissortail stopped by to see what I was up to so dang early in the morning….

It was a beautiful sunrise this morning with a ribbon of cloud framing the view….

A lone turkey out for his sunrise stroll along the water’s edge….

What a show off…

And the fishermen gathered….

Judging from the size of his fishing pole, I would venture to guess this man has bountiful expectations this morning….

Many of the meadow wildflowers have faded, but their golden glow in the morning light can still catch the eye….

A gang of spent wildflowers still stand tall and proud (looks like Lemon Mint to me)…

And you can occasionally find a solitary wheat stalk with kernels ready to drop amongst the prairie grasses and wildflowers….
