The Ew-Ah-What Daily Cap(s) (143)

Ew: A Blue Heron flies towards the rising sun – what a wonderful way to start your morning

Ah: I agree with the Heron – this is a great start to the morning

What: Everyone should have a John Deere on the ground, mounted on the wall, and one for the roof…I really wanted to go knock on this guy’s door just to visit with such an obvious personality, but didn’t. But I know where he lives!

The Watching Me Watching You Daily Cap(s) (128)

You may have thought you were hiding…

or perhaps the cover gave you some sense of security….

Or was it all that water that gave you thought you could always “duck” under and hide (Hey you ol’ coot! The turtle was giving your position away)…

Or could it have been you just needed to sit on the fence for a while on this one issue…

Regardless, it didn’t keep me from watching you watching me watching you….HA!

The Silhouette Daily Cap(s) (126)

I wasn’t the only one watching the sun rise this morning….

First they were in the water, then out, then back in, and now coming back out….

Coaxing the last bit of daylight out of a day’s worth of fishing….

The Paired up Daily Caps(s) (123)

Year ’round Canadian Geese…paired up

Year ’round Turkeys…paired up

Apparently, year ’round Jack-o-lanterns…paired up (and at the curb – don’t ask me why ‘cuze I haven’t the foggiest)

The Red Daily Cap(s) (117)

A female Cardinal precariously perched on a flimsy wildflower stem yet singing her heart out to me this morning....

You've seen this plant on this blog before: Hot Lips Salvia waiting for bees and butterflies and standing tall for me this morning....

I'm not sure whether it's the simplicity of the photo, the color contrast, or the story that surely goes along with this abandoned chair that caught my attention this morning....

OK, so maybe there is ever a slight hint of red somewhere in the sunrise this morning... (squint and you might see it)

The Daily Cap(s) (108)

These guys were all over a Keller park this afternoon - if it was bloomin' they were busy fluttering

Already sickly is this tree, and it's only spring...an early spring at that

They are a colorful lot with bookend wings...I think this is the Common Buckeye Butterfly

The Dances With Turkeys Daily Cap(s) (100)

I know…you guys are probably getting tired of all the turkey pictures, but this morning these two, I swear, were dancing for me. It’s probably the same two that were singing for me a couple days ago. Regardless, let it be known here and now that anyone who dances for me will at least get the top Limeyfish post-a-day billing. So if you can, please enjoy the series of 12 consecutive pictures of these two Tom’s strutting their stuff in a manly way just for me. It was definitely their defining stage moment; their showtime and time to show; their song and dance for anyone willing to pause a moment and watch; their foggy morning romancing of the hens. It had to have been…I just know it! I am much too aware that of the age, looks, and disposition of yours truly, it certainly does not warrant any kind of courtship…even one from one turkey (or two) to another turkey.

The By-Gully Daily Cap(s) (99)

Clouds obscured the Easter sunrise this morning so instead I listen to some Vivaldi /Mozart and watched the gulls fish. (sorry for the dark photos and blurriness y'all - it was much too early this morning to expect the head to have all the shuttering worked out beforehand)

Successful fishing venture on this dive...

Trying to get back in the air after a dive-bomb...and with a load

Persistance and perseverance pays off...

Synchronized attack formation...what an enjoyable strategy to watch....

The Lake Daily Cap(s) (97)

Is it...a family that fishes together, stays together (despite the smell)?

Is it...the family with the most (and biggest) poles, catch the most fish (or at least look the best in not doing so)?

New foliage on an immature Honeylocust catches the last bit of setting sun

Looky here who's on the run from me...my turkey buddy (or perhaps he is my buddy that's a turkey)

You know they know who I am (or have seen me enough times) when they stop 30 yards from my truck and sing (gobble) a duet for me. That was pretty cool despite them being just a bit "pitchy".

The Woodsy Daily Cap(s) (95)

Wish I knew my butterflies...they sure can be purdy

Winecups are always hard for me to photograph....

Still looking for my Texas Wildflowers ID books...can I get a little help here?.

A weathered old Bois d'Arc fence post...and a much newer post hold up a rusty 5-strand barbed wire fence

The New Park Daily Cap(s) (94)

At the newly opened area at the local Corps park, I watched this guy, on a sliver of land, catch a fish...

and then he caught another....

and for the love of stink bait, he went and caught himself another (3 fish, 10 minutes - kind of makes a guy want to grab a pole and start fishing himself)

and then I found my old buddies checking out the new area of the park....

all puffed up and showing off...for me?

Struttin' his stuff...

Most will overlook the weedy looking flowers, I try not to hurry through the day so quick...now where did I put my Texas Wildflower books?

The Butter Flying Daily Cap(s) (93)

You'd think he was watching 'Shakespeare in the Park" or something

Relaxed on an abundance of blossoms

Checking out all of the Chinese Photinia

Looks like he's about to jump on unsuspecting photographers below....

The Nightmare Daily Cap(s) (90)

Have I ever mentioned that next to tornadoes, I like snakes best?

The guy I was with today had a golf club shaft and used it to poke at these creatures of questionable value (that is a strictly a personal commentary on my part...although don't try to argue differently with me please - you will not convince me otherwise)...like he wanted me to start screaming and see how fleet-of-foot this big ol' boy is when hightailing it.

My next design project involves dealing with the habitat of these "nasty disposition black water snakes - I say they are Diamoondback Water Snakes - with non-venomous bites" (did I say "bites"? Oh geez). It seems I have been challenged with re-designing a City park boardwalk that traverses over this snake pit/beaver dam. It will require additional field investigation, which in turn will involve countless hours of insomnia, sudden night time awakenings with sheet-soaking sweats, and Indiana Jones type of fear-facing. Am I getting paid enough?

The Mushy Daily Cap(s) (89)

It's what I call a "mush" sunrise...low clouds, haze, fog, and probably ozone make for all the morning colors kind of mush together. Some days you have to really work at seeing (and appreciating) the beauty in what's given. I like "mushy" sunrises.

This Jake has been out gobbling solo the past couple of mornings. That's a pretty sure bet (the) Tom isn't ready to give up his rule around these woods just yet. So I'm guessing young Jake's life is kind of "mushy" right now. Yet he still manages to offer up a colorful pose along the cool-looking tree line.

The Foggy Daily Cap(s) (85)

When fishing gets rude, I wonder what fishermen say to each other when a trolling motor crosses much too close? "Hey, it's a big lake here guys!"

A foggy sunrise

With a glorious sunrise, cool temps, and a banded fog like this...well...doesn't it kinda makes you want to run through it with your arms flailing overhead and babbling incoherently? Or is it just me?

Now this exhibit of concentration was about as educational as it was entertaining, and as it was comical. Four males blindly chasing the female...I couldn't tell whether she enjoyed the attention or feared it. Ahhh spring is in the air!

My Zoe-Bird...The Royal Princess Zoey will always strike a great pose for me.

Saturday Down By the Lake

Indian Paintbrush

Just hanging out, standing on a log, having a conversation, taking in the morning sunshine...no big deal

I swear, these guys never stop fishing and eating...and they stay so dag gum skinny!

A Saturday morning demonstration

The morning dew on a spider web

Yup, my pant knees got wet for this shot

My turkey friends trying to sneak by unnoticed this morning...my good friend Doyt got to meet/greet them with me this morning.

The Springing Daily Cap(s) (81)

An early spring, an early rose

Here come the perennials and wildflowers (Black-eyed Susan with arthritic looking petals)

Taking a guess that this is a lovely Prairie Coneflower counts as knowing, right?

Crimson and clover...over and over

Check out the fuzzy Bluebonnets behind these...these...Black-eyed Susans

Last year's Buckeye fruit shell...with this year's blossom way in the back

This year's Buckeye fruit is forming...

What would a Daily Cap picture set be without a bird picture...a one-leg-longer-than-the-other bird picture (this Mockingbird stands all crooked in a Chinkapin Oak that's just about done flowering)

The Birding Daily Cap(s) (80)

Best I can tell, this is a Northern Flicker (woodpecker). More specifically, I think its the Yellow-shafted Flicker...you know, the male Yellow-shafted Flicker with the red splotch on the back of the neck and the way-cool mustache.

This is one of my "if only" photos. "If only" the focus were better on this Bluebird in flight....

The Saint Deery Fishy Clovery Bakery Horsey Daily Cap(s) (77)

Good morning ladies! And you thought you were all camo'd up...

Fishing for fish to go fishing....

I started to mow this afternoon and stopped...I figured something just wasn't right about hacking clover down on St. Patrick's Day...

So I went to the store (and had no takers to this suggestion all dang day long)...

Lucky of the Irish...it wasn't chocolate

This made me want to play the lottery tonight....

Need something to wash the cakes and cookies down....

This will have to do when the Guinness runs out...

Good friend Rita introduces me to Lucy and little Paisley...

Lucy, a mere 3-year old turned Momma....

Paisley, a mere 1-week old and already finding her Thoroughbred legs...

Watching out for each other - "got your back Mom!"

These two were just fun to stand and watch (and photograph)....

The Nesting Daily Cap(s) (76)

I have to fight the curosity-urge (and maybe I shouldn't) to go up and knock on the door just so I can visit with the person that does this sort of thing. (I hope they didn't stump the trees just to place the birdhouses)

They might have more bird houses than they have birds....
