Ham it up

For several months I’ve been asking folks what do you call people that do odd things in photographs, usually behind the primary subject’s focus. I been told they are “clowns”, “hams”, “_ _ _holes”, and “photo whores”. But of late, I’ve seen them called “bombers”…or maybe I should say the practice of stealing the scene is called “photobomb”.  Continue reading “Ham it up”

Hot Spotting at Sam’s

Many things are good about Sam’s Club. You get a good product at a good price, and the people, at least those at my local Sam’s, are generally accommodating and nice to deal with…considering  Sam’s employees typically have little interaction with customers (besides at the checkout stand). The one shorts-biter thing about Sam’s is you’re gonna spend some bucks to save some bucks. When was the last time you got out of the store for less than $100? “Woody” summer shower

An early morning sprinkling of my front lawn gave way to an entertaining few minutes. Sitting down with a fresh cup of coffee and my electronic Sunday newspaper (it’s just not the same as a print copy), I spied a red-headed woodpecker on my Cedar Elm getting a cooling summer shower this morning through the dining room window. I scrambled for a camera – any camera for that matter…I even considered aiming my iPad at him for a minute (funny how you forget where you put them at 6:15 in the morning…well…for some of us that might be a concern). Super Saturday

This has been a Saturday unlike others in recent memory.

We had the Hickory Creek Veterans Memorial dedication this morning. That, my limeyfishers, was an impressive service!

It got up to 105° this afternoon. Thankfully I had several hundred photos to go through and upload to Flickr.

Enjoyed an evening of praise music courtesy of the Glengormley Methodist Youth Choir (from Belfast, Northern Ireland). What fun, what inspiration!

And finally for the second night in a row, the Queen and I chased off a family of 4 racoons from our front yard (don’t you know, the Queen is very intolerant of any of her subjects being an nuisance and annoyance).  Continue reading “Super Saturday”

Naturally

With a Sunday to myself and the temperatures hovering around 100° at 12:30 p.m., guess what?

I went for a hike in the woods….

An afternoon was spent at the Fort Worth Nature Center. I attended a 2-hour talk and walk about North Texas Prairies given by a young lady with an education in prairie management. She works the weekends part time at the Nature Center doing outreach learning and eduction. Me and 7 others braved the heat and got smarter.

The NCAA and Big Sky Conference will probably threaten to sanction me now. Ahhh, probably not…I said it before the August 15th imposed mascot-change deadline so I should be OK.
