POW – Picture(s) of the Week

Having recently returned from my 9-day adventure from Texas to Brooklyn New York, I’m proud to claim my photo library has increased by more than 1,000 pictures. It’s BYOB to my house for sharing each and every one of those with anyone interested (not to worry…you won’t see them all with the weekly photo send).

We saw beautiful country, enjoyed many eats, and laughed our way there and back. But it was yesterday’s last leg of the trip that garnered the biggest outburst of laughter. We were driving through Little Rock Arkansas when we happened upon a vehicle…. Needless to say, Deb had to take the last few pictures as she thought I was jiggling the camera too much with my laughter. I not sure if it was the bleacher-butt wear-n-tear of a 4,111-mile trip, the 12-hour drive last-leg home yesterday from Nashville, the fact we were in Bubba-land Arkansas, or perhaps it was a combination of all of those that made me nearly wet my britches and caused tearful driving for several miles.

So, be it known:

Schmooosing Picture for the Day

Just what every young lady hopes for as she waits for the “walk” light at a busy street intersection…a man at least twice her age with sexy see-thru-side-seam pants and tank top, riding a bicycle, wearing shades and straw hat while puffing on a cigarette and carrying a vacuum sweeper….wow! My big ol’ belly doesn’t seem near as imposing as it did yesterday.

Dumb Quotes, Round 2

See…I told you I would: From the left side of the political aisle comes these dumb quotes…yes Virginia, the political idiots care not what they claim as their party affiliation or their political lean. Politicians are all the same and don’t try to convince me otherwise.  From my newfound blog… the same one that gives us the dumb conservative quotes posted earlier today comes this about the liberals: The Stir, a cafemom blog I’m thinking I like this lady. She’s clever and seemingly fair (for the most part) with her blogging. I’ll take that over political extremist propoganda any day. Continue reading Dumb Quotes, Round 2

Dumb Quotes, Round 1

From the right side of the political aisle comes these dumb quotes…now lets not have any one getting too excited, I know the left side has just as many political idiots and their proof of interview/press conference intelligence will soon be posted as well… Check out this newfound blog…it seems as much “balanced” as it is interesting: The Stir, a cafemom blog, and that certainly is refreshing for a change! 2010 Big 8-2+4 Predictions

Since my manhood may have been in question for withholding my predictions (but surely not my football mind); since my game-by-game predictions of seasons past has become obvious they had more popularity than I thought; since I am the oft-disputed champ of football prognostications (I whup all comers), how does this grab everyone?

My 2010 Saturday Football predictions (and comments) for the Big 8-2+4:

Big 8 – 2 + 4: The 2010 Saturday Football Saga

I will admit, my procrastination this year in making predictions is all UT’s fault. Pardon me while I puke through my helmet ear hole as that one university single handedly sat down one day this summer and said “let’s scare the beegeebers out of everybody”. So they forearm shivered every other Little 11 teams in the noggin and gave their helmets a spin right there on top of their heads.

Big 8+4 has become the Big 8-2+4, the Little 10, The Big One (or as they say in Austin, “The Big Un”), The Longhorn League, The DeMac Conference, Conference Texas and The Others, The Big TeXas Conference. The new league logo is to have “The Others” mascots shown skewered on the horns of a grinning Longhorn.

EHR: Bagpipes at a funeral

Adam forwards this story – EHR (Email Humor Received):

A Homeless Man’s Funeral

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper’s cemetery in the Kentucky back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man, I didn’t stop for directions.

I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt bad and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn’t know what else to do, so I started to play.

Showing Face

I signed up with Facebook some 18 months ago out of curiosity and because of the popular buzz surrounding it. I quickly learned one could enjoy the everyday happenings of family and friends, and pictures (always the posted pictures). Facebook has found many of my old friends and has reconnected me with family members that long ago traveled a different path than mine. It has been more fun than not catching up with those folks. With that promise, I had hoped it would truly be a “social network”, but alas the Facebook allure has lost its luster with me. Continue reading “Showing Face”

EHR: The Real story of the three bears

Even though this EHR (Email Humor Received) from OFA Marilyn may be a bit (male) bashful, it is funny!!!

A far more accurate account of the events of that fateful morning:

Baby bear goes downstairs, sits in his small chair at the table. He looks into his small bowl. It is empty. ‘Who’s been eating my porridge?’ he squeaks.

EHR: The Big 12 Republics

EHR (Email Humor Received) comes from OFB Tony, who got it from someone else. As per my lunch discussion with OFGaP JaiJai, I clarify the fact neither I nor OFB authored this – it, like all EHR, is merely passed on. But it is good and spot-on as well, don’t ya think?

THE BIG 12 AS COUNTRIES

Texas is like the USA – Wealthy, talented, and with seemingly endless resources. They have a big ego, but are deserving of it because they win at almost everything they do. Others often despise them out of jealousy. Their money and wealth make the world go round, and everyone wants a piece.

Texas A&M is like China – Big, powerful, and rival of Texas (USA). They live in a male dominated society, and thus their women are not allowed to be cheerleaders. Their money and power also make the world go round.

Oklahoma is like Mexico – Having no resources of their own, they have to invade the border of Texas (USA) in order to survive.

I will first read this book

Instead of fueling the fear for what tomorrow may bring, I will first read this book.

Instead of the incessant spread of political hate, lies, half-truths, and sarcasms, I will first read this book.

Instead of stirring the never-ending sports smack pot between differing fans of favorite universities and pro teams, I will first read this book.

Instead of losing my health over national healthcare, I will first read this book.

Really, it’s for the “better”

As I sat down last night to catch a few minutes of PBS before the 10pm news, I picked up on a show “already in progress”. It was a 30-minute filler mini-documentary on the late humorist and journalist Erma Bombeck. This show caught my attention in particular because my Mom adored Erma’s writings and humor.

Please understand, Mom would speak often about an Erma story read from the local newspaper…and occasionally clip a column that somehow spoke to her, only to give us boys and dad something to ponder the “why this article” as we went through Mom’s personal items months after she died.

I thought, what better way to gain some insight into the mindset of both Erma and Mom than to give a listen to this short television program.
