My apologies for the repeat, but I just had to give this first photo of Zoey its own billing. I had buried it in my “Aldo” post a couple of days ago because of the emotion in the stare and the content of the text I placed it in (stop me before I try to be creative again).

…it ends up being Squirrel Appreciation Day. Gee Whiz I missed it. Yup, I had my slingshot at the ready and could have taken aim.
The National Wildlife Federation came up with the nuisance idea. What were they thinking? Huffington Post gave it some press – the photos at the bottom of the webpage link are worth checking out regardless of your tolerance level for the ornery mammals.

Tonight I come home late from work, the girls (Mackie and Zoey) are impatiently waiting for one of us to come in the door to dish out the chow. So quickly, I bowed to the Royalty and feed the girls, did a couple of quick chores, and clicked on the television.
Chimney Swifts. Know them? Cool birds that will literally dive bomb into an un-hooded chimney at dusk. It really is a sight to watch. They will aggressively buzz you before circling overhead and then do this full speed nose-dive into the chimney for the evening. Their “clucking” sound chirp is unique. They clutch and build nests on the vertical face of the walls.
I’ve got a 10-year old – Queen Mackie – that can run circles around this Scot and a soccer ball…not that I’m bragging or anything.
Connor needs to learn to rock up on top of the ball like the Queen does, spin in circles and bounce to the beat…
Road travels and remodeling has done an outstanding job in keeping me from my good ol’ op-ed blog (hope I didn’t lose too many folks). Nearly 5 weeks and many allergic reactions to sheet rock dust ago we started our master bedroom/master bathroom remodel. That should wrap up early next week and then we can finally shower (eeeewwwww) and get some sleep….But what does any of that have to do with the post title you ask? Not too much.
Almost 2 weeks ago we traveled to Kansas to visit parents (mostly) and pick up a new Scottie dog for our family. Zoey is our new 3-year old female that is full of life, energy, and laughter-induced antics…and yes, the hormonal balance remains out of kilter in our home (as it has for many years).
Way too exciting news y’all!
We will soon be the new care providers of 3-year old Scottie (I would say “owners” but it is a Scottie after all and we humans in the same house with one are merely there for a Scottie’s pleasure and convenience :) ).
Her name is Zoey and she comes from an already loving home in Kansas. We are so thankful to her current owner Leah for reaching out for a caring home for Zoey as her life goals are changing and she unfortunately needs to surrender her pal and companion.
So the price of new Scottie dogs and puppies is going up. The newest celebrity in the dog world is a Scottie named Sadie. Step back Barney and Ms. Beasley. “Sit!” Sadie. You guys have nothing on my Mackie Queen of Scots.

Most of you know of the bond I have with my Scottie, Mackie, and of her bond with our family…that’s entirely on her terms. It’s a dysfunctional quality that is enjoyed every day (as she lays at my feet, licking her own, with total disregard for me telling her to stop). She brings a smile to my face and she knows all the buttons to push and strings to pull in maintaining an unrelenting grip on our household.
Friends and family have this breed: Gal Pal Jai Jai, although I’ve yet to meet them, has three personality-unique Scotties (her parents until just recently had 2 – now 1); OFNi Sarah has adorable Wallace (rescued Scottie mix) and Kingston (rescued Schnauzer that thinks he’s a Scottie); OFSIL Sue B has the fun and funny Brodie; Friend Dawn has 2 black Scottie that love most to pose for photographs. I have yet to meet a Scottie that didn’t make me smile. In fact, at the Westminster Dog Show this year one did just that: a Scottish Terrier named Sadie competed for Best in Show.

I still have the old vinyl LP of Bon Jovi’s Billy the Kid movie…kind of – what was the name of that movie? – Slippery When Wet soundtrack. That’s when the hair was large and had a personality of its own…remember (1986) that?
Since then, he’s pruned much of the hair and has partnered up lately with several younger singing sensations (do all aging singers do that?). Just for the record, if Jon wants to hook up with Jennifer Nettles or Leann Rhimes again, any time soon, for any music, video, CMT’s Crossroads episodes, or any other reason, I am all over that for sure.
With work demands mounting, Deb called Friday wanting to get away for a short weekend. We both agreed a quiet weekend was in order. We found a wonderful B&B in Mineola Texas that was willing to rent us a room for one night (most want a two-night reservation don’t you know). It meets the Gotta-Stay standards of the newly established TMay82 Travel and Eats Blog Review.

The story goes something like this: In 2000, my lovely bride ventured to her ancestrial homeland of Scotland. I won’t go into that trip (since I didn’t go with her, but perhaps I could write about the time I had at home during her 2 week excursion…on second thought maybe I shouldn’t). Let’s just leave it at she had a grand time with her U.S. family, and new found family across the pond (or at least with the statues, monuments, and castles).
