Reaquaint with a Friend

Those that read this, know her. Next to OFSIL Becky, she is the most frequent commenter and is in the top two (along with Bec) regular readers, that I know of, of this hogwash. We all know her as J, JaiJai, Gal Pal, and Queenie. And she has finally decided to start her own wordpress blog to compete with me and steal all my readers. Check her out…she doesn’t scare me (only her friend Vinny does): Baylorjai02’s Blog. You will most likely find her a better writer with an enjoyable story or two.  Oh, and I’ve got her on the side Blog … Continue reading Reaquaint with a Friend

Found a Friend

Still a relatively new newlywed and a most recent mom, Holly started her own special event coordinator business after working several years for the City of Lake Dallas as their Special Events Coordinator. The Lake Cities business community think the world of her. So now she’s a sole proprietor and for the most part has low overhead costs; she can also to the Mom things with her daughter as needed. Holly has it figured out I think. And to top it all off, she’s a fellow wordpresser – check her out…give her some business. Something to Celebrate. tm Continue reading Found a Friend

Pictures on a new blog page

Bloggers: I’ve upload pictures ONLY to my Flickr now. The “other” webblog proved to be somewhat burdensome and several of my daily readers advised me not to get too spread out…. ____________________________________________ As a persistence and creativity goal for 2009, I am starting a 365 project. 365 simply means at least one picture per day is to be chronicled. It can be a thoughtful (or lucky) snapshot, a composed picture, portrait, whatever the photo mode so dictates. Photos will be uploaded at least weekly – be sure to check out the pictures as we get through this year. A link is on … Continue reading Pictures on a new blog page

Flip Off

Local radio personalities Ernie and Jay (KRLD 1080 on the AM dial) have a 12 o’clock noon program call “Flip Off”. It allows callers (listeners) to “vent” any frustrations they have by simply flipping off whomever. Today’s Flip Off had me agreeing and smiling on all of them until the last guy with the GPS gift…then I laughed out loud, in my car, in traffic – I’m sure the drivers around me thought I was bothered to some degree. Any who, listen if you can/want/have the time…but if you start, you’ve got to listen past the same Key Whitman Eye Center commercial … Continue reading Flip Off

Not funny but it really is

This was on CNN…so I got the news clip off their website. It really was a serious and scary incident and the 88 year old woman is to be commended for keeping her wits about her. The funny thing is the name of the suspect caught by police…I wonder how many takes the CNN reporter had to do before getting it right. Check out the clip for yourself: Woman, 88, yanks nude intruder’s testicles Continue reading Not funny but it really is

Hill Country Christmas

img_5076Ahhh, Christmas this year was spent a bit differently. Ohhhh we had our kids with us for sure, but it was out of the “home” for the second year in a row. Last year we traveled to San Antonio – that was cool. This year we were again close to San Antonio…about 45 minutes northwest in Wimberley.

Even though it went from 36° to nearly 80°…and then back to 40°, we had a img_5237awonderful time in the Hill Country over Christmas. We had days where we woke up to the furnace running and ate dinner with the AC blowing. Something about not having cold temps and snow on the ground at Christmas just isn’t right.

FD and Mark, FS and Tammy, and Frank and Lupe joined us for a relaxing, special time together.  The time went by so fast and very little college football bowls were watched – which made it even more neat for everyone. Continue reading “Hill Country Christmas”

Permission granted to all flashers

Winter weather in north Texas. When you have this: It must give permission to an annoying minority of drivers to run continuously the automobile’s hazard lights, travel 15 mph (tops), and straddle the lane dividers when ice accumulation has yet to make the road treacherous. Flashing hazard lights, when right in front of you, is in itself hazardous. You can’t get around the dumbo ’cause everyone is going slow wondering why the bonehead has his flashers on…I got a headache and I will dream tonight blinking lights. I think the “flashers” must make your car stay straight…. I know, these drivers are just being safe…and sorry. … Continue reading Permission granted to all flashers

Photo Surprise

It was kind of like finding $20 in a pair of pants…way cool. I grabbed an idle CF card for my Canon for a few quick pictures the other night. When I started to download them later that evening I found a handful of other pictures patiently waiting for me to share – pictures taken over the Father’s Day weekend.  Check out Flickr for new pictures of OFGNi Madison. Tripod the Calf (RIP) wanting feed gets the blog picture (along with FD in the unusual pose – that birds and bees talk may be long over due) tm Continue reading Photo Surprise

Giving Thanks Trip

Dad/Great Grandpa and our Little Guy Eli
Dad/Great Grandpa and our Little Guy Eli

This weekend was met with considerable road time and quality family time. We are a bit worn out to say the least but worth the 1600 miles, snow, flat tire, big helping of traditional turkey-day stuff(ing), road construction delays, and eating well at a couple nice restaurants in Austin.

Wednesday had me driving to Wichita to pickup Deb at the airport – she was on a return leg of a business trip from Minneapolis by way of Chicago O’Hare. 10 minutes from a 10 a.m. arrival, I brush up against a curb at the Kansas Turnpike Toll Booth and pop the stem on the front driver’s side tire. The poor lady attendant in the toll booth – she tought she had been shot by the look on her face when that stem broke off with a loud “pop”. It turned out to be an hour or so delay getting the tire changed and repaired. I finally got to the airport to pick up Deb a wee bit late (thank heavens for cell phones). Sky-scape

dscf1237
Altostratus undulatis (my kind of name-too bad it's not a plant)

Kind of cool clouds graced the skies over north Texas yesterday late afternoon. I was able to capture some of the event but can tell you the photos do no justice to the eye witness account.

Regardless, I had the entire office outside looking up to the heavens (did I mention we office right next to a Hookah lounge and 2 doors down from a store-front church…maybe I shouldn’t to keep my credibility intact).

I sent several photos to the local ABC, NBC, and Fox afflilates. Only the ABC 10pm TV weather report “published” the photos last night during the broadcast that I know of. The Fox television chief meteorogist has been the only one to respond to my emailed photos and inquiry.  Continue reading “Sky-scape”

And just what did the 300-pound canary say?

I’ve sat through many sermons and lectures that caused this same type of reaction. (I laugh outloud everytime I watch this – and don’t you know what I’ll be thinking next time I see someone doing this in public…meeeeeeeoooooooowwwwwwwww limy fish). I’ve tried to converse with some people that had a similar reaction to my attempts at social graces. And has anyone seen a pair of cat ears laying around anywhere? I would be grotchy too if I couldn’t find, see, or hear my ears…. tm BTW, the 300-pound canary said ____________________________ (anyone besides FS or FD?) Now here’s a thought

As our Government moves towards socialism with unknowing ideas of bailouts, rescue, mortgage ownership, health care, and all other sorts of financial assistance for the stupid and downtrodden, everyone seems to be extending their hand…but not so much in friendship these days.

I received this email forward from a friend several days ago. Even though the pessimist in me says it will never happen and it’s kind of an afterthought now, I like this guy’s idea, style, and reasoning. Maybe he will run for public office sometime soon.

A Modest Plan:   Not to mention $700 Billion to bail out Wall Street, while mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren!

Hi Pals,
I’m against the $85 BILLION bailout of AIG. Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a “We Deserve It” dividend. To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bona fide U.S. citizens, aged 18+.

Automobile (I think) aftermarket amenities

A late lunch will sometimes pay off when bubba cars are sited around town.

Photographer dexterity and the good use of mirrors were able to capture “that’s something you don’t see every day” pictures while driving down the road. Don’t pass this link on to the DMV please.

While you’re at it, note the detailed construction techniques: the creative use of duct tape, the ingenious use of wood on the grill, sheet metal and plastic abound, the inverted john-boat to serve as a truck bed cover, and who knows what else. Oh I know, check out the wheel covers….

If you will, direct your attention to all the rivets, the non-use of bondo, the crooked application of racing stripes down the side, and a few minor oversprays of spray paint on the back bumper. The unfortunate thing about this “vehicle” is a large windshield crack has lessened the value of the truck. Now that is a bummer.

Just a passing thought: I wonder if this guy is a duck hunter? He could probably purposefully roll the “vehicle” in to the water and paddle out to retrieve his bounty. Getting back to shore could be a trick. Continue reading “Automobile (I think) aftermarket amenities”

Financial Times, they be changing

In a brilliant display of economic timing during these uncertain times, OFB (I will let you guess which one) sends me this bit of financial advice:

Investment Tips for 2008

With all the turmoil in the market today, and the collaspe of Lehman Brothers and the acquistion of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America, this might be some good advice. For all of you with any money left, be aware of the next expected mergers so that you can get in on the ground floor and make some BIG bucks.

Watch out for these consolidations later this year:

  1. Hale Business Systems, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Fuller Brush, and W.R. Grace Co. will merge and become…Hale, Mary, Fuller, Grace.
  2. Polygram Records, Warner Bros., and Zesta Cracker join forces and become…Poly, Warner, Cracker.
  3. 3M will merge with Goodyear and become….MMMGood.
  4. Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motors, Dofasco, and Dakota Mining will merge and become…ZipAudiDoDa
  5. FedEx is expected to join its competitor UPS and become…FedUP
  6. Fairchild Electronics and Honeywell Computer will become…Fairwell Honeychild
  7. Grey Poupon and Docker Pants are expected to become…Poupon Pants
  8. Knotts Berry Farm and the National Organization of Women will become…Knot NOW!

And finally…….. Continue reading “Financial Times, they be changing”

“The Problem is China…

…what are we going to do with all those people?”. This was one of the few college professor lectures that stuck with me after all these years. The class was an Environmental/Ecology elective – the topic was world overpopulation. His words may have been somewhat prophetic, but if he said China would one day be an world economic engine, I must have fallen asleep in that class. Sent to me from my co-worker Jayne: SHIFT HAPPENS   And then there is this response (not sent from my co-worker Jayne):  If you have trouble making the YouTube arrow work right (like I did), … Continue reading “The Problem is China…
