Tree Scottie

From my good friend and co-worker Larry, an avid mountain biker, who said he stopped along the trail and photographed this tree with my dogs in mind. It definitely looks like a Scottie dog. Is it Mackie? Zoey? from Texas. Perhaps Molly? Bonnie? visiting from Kansas. Continue reading “Tree Scottie”

Weekender Hats, Weather and a Wee Bit

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend in North Texas.

80° on Saturday…I actually (yup I admit it) turned on the air conditioner for a brief late afternoon cool-down). We then had an Irish dinner Saturday night that was simply my fortune (luck) to be invited. Daylight Savings Time kicked in this morning, but it did not make me late for church nor throw Mackie the Queen of Scots off of her usual get-out-of-bed-you-limey-fish roust to get her breakfast. Yard work today in 78° weather…until the weedeater batteries wore out. I had dust flying everywhere and I’m almost certain the neighbors slammed shut their windows as the dust cloud slowly drifted north.

All this made me go searching in our junk-filled garage for a yard hat to wear. I’ve always been a bit over-the-top with my hats and have a hang up with sunburnt ears.  And I found a hat…errrr, several (each has its own story too).  Continue reading “Weekender Hats, Weather and a Wee Bit”

Both me hands on me Arse

Cooze I have me a dilemma and two this fine day my dear laddie and lass.

I have no camera as she went in to be cleansed. I’ve done me photograph-o’day before without using me fancy camera, but now that she’s not at at a staff’s reach I feel a wee bit exposed to the brisk Irish breeze. Perhaps I will hand draw me pictures for the next several days, and call them photographs.  Continue reading “Both me hands on me Arse”

ECR: Kayaking down(the water)fall

This ECR (Email Craziness Received) comes from my friend Shawn.

Contrary to what some may say about me, I can be a bit of a rebel and risk-taker (on occasion I’ve been known to wear different colored socks and undershorts other than white…but not on the same day). But the stunt on the link below, well…this guy is plain ol’ nuts! Watching this is great hold-your-breathe-expand-your-lung-capacity exercise.

Parading Mardi Gras down Main Street

In the spirit of Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday, the City of Lake Dallas held their annual parade and party tonight and did it in small town Texas style. I was a part of the first half of the party – who knows how the second half went.

Everybody loves a parade…especially when you know many of the revelers walking down the street. But no beads were thrown my way – I wonder just what is up with that? Continue reading “Parading Mardi Gras down Main Street”

Fiddles and Skirts

The North Texas Irish Festival was in Dallas this weekend. I made my way to Fair Park this afternoon and had a fun, grand time (partly because I didn’t partake in the Festival food as it reminded me to much of the State Fair).

Five hours were spent to watching kids learn Irish dancing, begging dad for swords bigger than they were at vendors throughout the Festival, and old and young alike getting lessons on old Irish hunting methods…the bow and arrow. The Festival is dog friendly so there were canines everywhere.

“I think he’s going to eat Gary”

I do love that M&M commercial….

I do not love the SI article, College Football and Crime, in that it whistles the top college football programs and flags the criminals they recruit and/or keep on the team…all for the sake of TV dollars and fleeting glory. As most of you know, I have repeatedly claimed I didn’t like or watch Pro Football because the college game was mostly guys playing for the love of the sport and in the spirit of campus camaraderie (that good ol’ college try, why don’t ya?).
