In conference

The past three days were spent on the Gulf Coast (Galveston). A wonderful time despite the island losing power several times throughout the day on Wednesday, the wind blowing like nobody’s business, the hotel’s satellite TV was scrambled on occasion, and a 42″ waterline in need of repair kept water restrictions in force until today. We were told the electricity and TV were intermittent because of the sea salt buildup on lines and electronics (normally, rainfall would wash the salt off but the island was in a 4-month drought).  Don’t take it wrong, a grand time was had in the 50°-60° -70° weather with a cool ocean breeze! Oooooo, ahhhhhh.  Continue reading “In conference”

The Queen poses

Mackie, Mack-a-do, Mac-a-roni, Mackers, Mack, Mack-Attack…I call her all those names, along with “Hey You Baby Girl”, “Such a pretty girl”, “Goofy Ball”, and “Goodness Sakes”. But mostly she is referred to as “Your Highness, the Queen of Scots”!

Her and Scottie Gal Pal Zoey get their hair and nails done tomorrow…they’ve been invited to Prince William and Kate’s wedding so don’t you know a gussey-up is warranted. Funny, the Royals always act as if they are embarrassed to have their pictures taken afterwards.

Since the day we got her – some 11 years ago – her eyes have always melted any dog discipline I try to enact. Her antics always make me laugh

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lines

Too many pictures to choose from for this week’s Photo Challenge. So guess what? I’ll just put a bunch up here. Sorry gang, the dreaded “family slide show” shall commence now. BTW, I made the pictures smaller to make it seem like you’re scrolling through them faster. Grab your popcorn and beer…please silence your cell phones during the show :)

I’m kind of partial to lines, whether they’re formal or natural (it’s what I’ve done with myself for the past 29 years)….

Weekly Photo Challenge: Old

This is a fun topic this week – thanks WordPress.com! I’ve got lots of “old” I could share.

My camera is always in search of that old setting regardless of the subject. It seeks out the “old” like a magnet to metal because “old” will have character and personality unlike what you get with something built of more youthful age (unfortunately that also goes for people sometimes).

Call me sentimental, or perhaps it was fate…maybe ironic, but this song came up in the play order from my iTunes while posting the pictures. Play it – I bet you even know the lyrics. Enjoy the music while you enjoy (hopefully) the photos.

An old Denton (Texas) house some would say in desperate need of painting

Let me tell ya a story about a man named….

Hey! Granny fell off!

So it was, I admit, I delayed traffic on the commute home Thursday evening.

But you tell me…what right-minded photographer wouldn’t have done the same if they happened upon an interesting vehicle traveling the same route as you, right?

Don’t you know I excited the highway and waited on the service road for him to pass…twice. His top speed was 40. Any faster and the plywood would have set sail, and the rail nails popped out.

Ya just can’t (you have to pronounce that “caint”) get much more bubba than this.  Continue reading “Let me tell ya a story about a man named….”

April Madness

At the main office of my employment, youth is slow to move along this time of year. College basketball inspires a select group of players with a stirring of competitive juices. And then they get after each other for nothing more than braggin’ rights for 11 months, or for some smack talk at each pickup game throughout the year. They are a fun lot to be around and watch.

They also make me very tired just observing….  Continue reading “April Madness”

Family March Birthdays

Guess who?

March birthdays within the family…I have 8 of them. I trust someone will tell me if I need more.

I do need some pictures from family….

In my vast library of photos I have no pictures of David McRae, Sally (May) Crawford, nor any of Morgan May. Don’t make me come over there and take pictures of you guys…OK, do. Who are these people any way – just kidding :)

Send me pictures and I will get these folks the photo recognition they deserve! In the mean time, I’ve robbed one picture of each from Facebook profiles (sorry gang).

Hope everyone had a happy birthday.  Continue reading “Family March Birthdays”

It was a good morning…

…back in mid-January. With the cool weather the last couple mornings I remembered this draft post I never completed.

Overnight, a heavy fog settled over the lake. The waters were calm. It was me and the ducks, gulls, and one grouchy egret. One ought to take a recording device of some kind and capture the squawking everyone makes at dawn’s first light.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Ocean

And here I thought the Weekly Photo Challenge was “Beach”….

When you say “beach”, I’m not thinking of the local beach down by the lake. “Beach” = Ocean, and it has been since August of 2007 when the last time I step foot in one (ocean). I am of the recent opinion that that fact in itself qualifies for a much needed “beach” vacation…I’ll be in Galveston for nearly a week next month! Maybe that will count as long as I avoid the jellyfish and tar balls.

In the mean time these photos will have to do: Our trip to New England. What a blast this was. FD took the train from NYC to Providence, FS flew with us. The four of us – most likely our last foursome vacation – was very special.  Continue reading “Weekly Photo Challenge: Ocean”
