Movie eats

I did a solo date last night…well sort of; it was me and Harry Potter. The movie was actually pretty good, if you’ve been at least following the stories either by book and/or on the big screen. Based on the attendance, I may have been in a definite minority of those having not seen the last HP movie. Regardless, I won’t snap the wand, but I will say this: teenagers are annoying and quite bothersome at movie theaters, especially when the genders are mixed…how and why they move around the theatre so much is beyond me…and they think that’s “cool”. Oh yeah, they use the flashlight app on their phone to do so. Arrrggghhhh.

But better yet, no movie theatre food was consumed!

OK, here’s my sign

As you may have noticed from an earlier-in-the-day post, I stopped at the In N Out Burger in Allen Texas for lunch today. It truly is a treat to indulge in this, a favorite fast food burger place of mine (I’ve been munching on those since the mid-80’s whenever I traveled to California and the opportunity presented itself).

I had the Double-Double (aka as the #1) today. Delicious, right?

Dang right! If I’m eating fast, I love my In N Out Burger burgers!

Alexandria to Arlington

Advocacy finished up today in Alexandria. We all left excited about having to deal with politicians and their political processes. Wrapped up at noon, grabbed a sandwich, and found a quiet spot in the hotel lobby to call my airline.

You see when I made the reservation, I had intentions on experiencing the many sites and monuments of Washington DC. That was before it decided to get hot and humid in the nations capital. It has been 100+ degrees the 3 days I’ve been here. Ugghhh! I could have stayed in Texas and got e same temperature treatment I got here.  Continue reading “Alexandria to Arlington”

Scattershooting the Day

The day started at at 4am. Showered, shaved, dogs petted and feed, and out the door at 4:45.

Arrived at Terminal D parking and found a spot right away at area J5 (I tell you that mostly so I won’t forget where I parked).

20110723-124937.jpgGot through airport security without have a visual violation by the full body scan polaroid. Dang it…and I wore clean underwear just for those guys today.

Boarded the plane at 5:50. At 6:15 – our scheduled departure time – the captain comes over the PA mumbling something about a cooling fan for the navigation system was not working and the whole unit would need to be replaced…not once, but twice.

We pushed away from the gate at 8:00.

A first of many???

Darn tooting…I hope.

from womanaroundtown.com

Many of you know the FD has been persistent in becoming  a legitimate actor in NYC since graduating from NYU (all these abbreviations, for crying out loud…). She been at it for 10+ years, doing what she can to get noticed and polish her craft. Her professors told her it would be 10 or so years before she would get work (her body needed to catch up with her acting maturity is what I remember them telling her). Well looky here why don’t cha…it has been 10 years, she looks good (and a bit older), she has the work bit happening, now if only she could bank something for her loads of talent (patience Dad, it’s coming)!

Hot Spotting at Sam’s

Many things are good about Sam’s Club. You get a good product at a good price, and the people, at least those at my local Sam’s, are generally accommodating and nice to deal with…considering  Sam’s employees typically have little interaction with customers (besides at the checkout stand). The one shorts-biter thing about Sam’s is you’re gonna spend some bucks to save some bucks. When was the last time you got out of the store for less than $100? Super Saturday

This has been a Saturday unlike others in recent memory.

We had the Hickory Creek Veterans Memorial dedication this morning. That, my limeyfishers, was an impressive service!

It got up to 105° this afternoon. Thankfully I had several hundred photos to go through and upload to Flickr.

Enjoyed an evening of praise music courtesy of the Glengormley Methodist Youth Choir (from Belfast, Northern Ireland). What fun, what inspiration!

And finally for the second night in a row, the Queen and I chased off a family of 4 racoons from our front yard (don’t you know, the Queen is very intolerant of any of her subjects being an nuisance and annoyance).  Continue reading “Super Saturday”

Naturally

With a Sunday to myself and the temperatures hovering around 100° at 12:30 p.m., guess what?

I went for a hike in the woods….

An afternoon was spent at the Fort Worth Nature Center. I attended a 2-hour talk and walk about North Texas Prairies given by a young lady with an education in prairie management. She works the weekends part time at the Nature Center doing outreach learning and eduction. Me and 7 others braved the heat and got smarter.

It’s Finally Friday

This morning's "celebrate the senses day"....

Woo Hoo! It is Friday!

And a special Friday it is.

Because….don’t you know…it’s…

“Celebration of the Senses Day” where everyone should stop somewhere along today’s journey and watch (see), taste, feel, smell, and listen to somthing…somewhere.

No?

Don’t want to do that?

Then there are these “holidays” to account for today: Continue reading “It’s Finally Friday”

Old friends seen and old friends married

Got to see a few of my old friends tonight. I love nights like these.

K-Berr (Kati) and Will got married in an outdoor ceremony…on the hottest day of the summer (so far). It was 107° on the drive to Burleson, but the Lone Oak Winery had a cooling breeze across its meadows and under their large shade tree. We left the reception at 10:30pm – it was stil 97°. Gotta love Texas in the summertime for sure.

It was a wonderful evening for the newlyweds and their guests.
