During a work-related project submittal at the City the other day, I was joking around with the city staff – teasing and being generally ornery and obnoxious (who me?). After a comment was made, one of the young lady staffers stated, in an amazement tone of expression, “Excuse Me?” to a co-worker’s comment. My buttinski “From the Movies” response: “Squeeze you…she hardly knows you” (should I be concerned about sexual harassment here?). She looked at me like I had just snapped my twig. She had no idea why I would say something that made absolutely no sense (to her anyway) and admitted she had never heard of that “expression”. She doesn’t know “the game” and apparently is in need of a movie pass gift card – Ms. 20-something needs to get out a bit more.
I find myself frequently using Movie lines in everyday conversation. It’s becomes a game with me trying to recite a movie line that is even remotely relevant with conversation topic. FD Tiffany, if she’s in “non-full brain mode”, is quite good at this since she’s an avid movie “Buffy”. FS Tyler contributes timely “bring out your dead” comments to movie line conversations…liking scarily similar movie lines as mine.
Left field movie lines in conversations are typically met by rather puzzled physical and verbal expressions from most people involved…most of the time. The exception of course is with others having “different” personality types (and I think that personality type category is somewhere well down the alphabet) or my family when we converse in movie line dialogue, everyone adding their own favorites…and our conversations usually makes perfect sense…to us anyway…meaning we are a family collective personality type well past the “M” position in the alphabet.
Thanks to a young city staffer’s movie naivety, an unorginal blog idea was thunked. I’ve added yet another page to this blog for your comment, amusement, purview, and/or “for-ev-er”. You will find the start of a collection of my favorite movie lines and quotes. The “Movie Lines” tab at the top of the blog page gang – I would expect at least a few people to have a comment or two…and we all know who you are.
I’m off to see a “Hancock” matinee with a pad and pencil just in case a line is worthy of record.
