That’s a line I’ve used for years in closing the pre-game announcements and prior to kickoff of Lake Dallas High School’s “Falcon Football Friday Night”
Five times a year, I have a bit of fun doing the PA for home football games. None of my extended family have heard “the voice of the Falcons” (keep in mind that this is what the athletic director has called me for a very long time…I’m still trying to figure out whether that’s a good voice or a bad one; he’s never really said). FS heard me last on the PA in the fall of 1999; FD heard me last year when she was back for her 10-year reunion; Deb…well she’s in that school of athletics-not-for-me. Her last time may have been when FD was cheering her senior year.
Whatever…this year the District got a brand, spankin’ new press box. It’s a handsome structure and I’m another 20′ or so higher in the air. This box will take some getting used to: the last two I was able to enjoy an open window to the elements and crowd noise. Not this one however – it’s all closed up. At half time Friday, I put in a request with Administration to add a wire from the radio microphone mounted pressbox for the internet radio guys to the PA box. There’s something all about Texas high school football when the PA guy can get excited along with the crowd. The leather seats are a nice alternative to the folding chairs I had for years, and the AC; oh boy does the AC works like a ch…ch…champ.
Oh yeah, first game: Lake Dallas Falcons 43, Sherman Bearcats 27. Second home game is Friday as we host the Red Oak Hawks…stay tuned
Fixed windows!! They don’t open at all?

I know! Nary a crack in the windows. What’s up with that architectural craziness?

That is just crazy…..I sure wouldn’t have done it like that!

What? You guys don’t do a 2-story glass curtain wall facing the field of play? That is SOAD (standard operating architectural design) for Texas high school football. it makes our high schools look professional down here. :)
