Scared cool

Halloween is one week from Monday. I’ve got half a bag of candy ready to dole out…come on by. I usually have candy left over each year. Last one here gets the most (and best) candy!

With my street address I need to go prowlin’ for a couple of pumpkins for craving get kids to the door. Little did I know when I bought this house years ago that location-location-location needed to be considered. My street is the primary in-n-out for everyone and homes on my block are only on one side of the street – not a bad setup really except the for the day, or maybe it’s just for the one frightful night in October.

Kids, it seems, already have a shopping savvy in them wanting to work both sides of a street for their free candy. So it is the Jack O’Lanterns that get trick-or-treaters to my street, and has them excited, or scared walking up to the door.

The many years of doing 8-12 funny, scary, crazy pumpkin cravings for Halloween night with FD and FS were suddenly paled in comparison to a “Top 10 Halloween Events” watched on, of all things, The Weather Channel last week (follow that link above for a bit of craziness celebration).

Faired Well at the State Fair

Sunday…I took a trip to The Great State Fair of Texas!

What a glorious day it was – breezy, upper 80°, and when you’re one of the first to arrive, parking was easy, convenient, and close to the entrance gate!

Each year the State Fair is an intentional destination. I wouldn’t be completely honest if I said my primary reasoning going is for the Auto Show.

I go for the people watching!

I go for the live entertainment on stage (several venues around the fairgrounds)!

I go for free ice cream cone and the give-away bread sampling at the Dairy/Grain Building!

I go to marvel at the wonderful Art Deco buildings scattered about the fairgrounds!

But mostly, I go for the traditional food of the State Fair as well as each year’s must-have foods!

Kettle Raining

The rain started about 3 am and it chased us all day long. We all stayed dry for the most part although the fishing was lousy – Tony and I caught more sticks than fish – and the lake claimed a number of our fishing lures.

Shore lunch was outstanding as usual. Had a blast – Dad and I watch a Bald Eagle swoop down for a dead fish about 40 yards from the boat…now that was pretty way cool. We went to the lodge after that show.

Hard boiled and hatched

Yesterday two things happened of any consequence. One was the last day of tax-free, back-to-school weekend bargains and the other was Hatch Chile – only the best chile out there – shopping day. But the chiles were NOT tax-free…a few were taxing on the taste buds however. Central Market was checked and OMG they had Hatch coming out there ears….

All the food photographed found its way into the shopping cart. Did I mention I love Hatch Chiles? I went crazy stupid on the photos, none of which I know will win an entry into Food magazine next month. And so it is that I boldly claim a small victory (as of yesterday). That tonnage-loss program…you know…that one that has occupied many a side comment in my postings of late has given reason to indulge in a DQ Blizzard or something (not really).

Well, my victory is the tonnage I’ve managed to lose off these weary bones and joints now equals my age (that’s my biological age, not the mental one).

Movie eats

I did a solo date last night…well sort of; it was me and Harry Potter. The movie was actually pretty good, if you’ve been at least following the stories either by book and/or on the big screen. Based on the attendance, I may have been in a definite minority of those having not seen the last HP movie. Regardless, I won’t snap the wand, but I will say this: teenagers are annoying and quite bothersome at movie theaters, especially when the genders are mixed…how and why they move around the theatre so much is beyond me…and they think that’s “cool”. Oh yeah, they use the flashlight app on their phone to do so. Arrrggghhhh.

But better yet, no movie theatre food was consumed!

OK, here’s my sign

As you may have noticed from an earlier-in-the-day post, I stopped at the In N Out Burger in Allen Texas for lunch today. It truly is a treat to indulge in this, a favorite fast food burger place of mine (I’ve been munching on those since the mid-80’s whenever I traveled to California and the opportunity presented itself).

I had the Double-Double (aka as the #1) today. Delicious, right?

Dang right! If I’m eating fast, I love my In N Out Burger burgers!

Berl & Company

One benefit of my employment is a perk that affords spirtual counseling if and whenever the need might arise. A couple pastors come to our office a few times per month and check in on each employee. Obviously, friendships, fellowships, and trust develop between all of us. Berl is one of the pastors that stops by each week. His visits are welcomed in our Fort Worth office. Memorial Day

It was a grand 3-day holiday weekend. This Monday also ended the National Backyard Games Week…Tuesday will mark the end of the National Barbeque Month. I did my usual photography stuff…I actually hopped on the bicycle and tooled down to the Corps Park for pictures this morning. We celebrate all that weekend stuff, and most of us, somewhere, sometime, somehow reflect on our fallen military heros. It truly was a meaning full weekend – thanks!
