You-who, it made him famous

I still have the old vinyl LP of Bon Jovi’s Billy the Kid movie…kind of – what was the name of that movie? – Slippery When Wet soundtrack. That’s when the hair was large and had a personality of its own…remember (1986) that?

Since then, he’s pruned much of the hair and has partnered up lately with several younger singing sensations (do all aging singers do that?). Just for the record, if Jon wants to hook up with Jennifer Nettles or Leann Rhimes again, any time soon, for any music, video, CMT’s Crossroads episodes, or any other reason, I am all over that for sure.

At Circuit City’s bankruptcy sale the other day, I bought the “Lost Highways” compact disc for $5 (they didn’t have any LP’s…what’s up with that?). After only one once-through, I’m here to tell you I would have paid the full price. The entire album has already been downloaded to my Sansa

Mackie Queen of Scots
Mackie Queen of Scots

MP3 and I have Mackie Queen of Scots singing with me (howling mostly or at the very least a nose-knudging to the thigh) as I sing most of the lyrics to most of the songs with ear plugs snuggly placed in the ears.

In searching Yahoo for Bon Jovi song lyrics, I get this “other artists similar” option. Have you ever done this? Here were my options: Poison, Foreigner, Jason Aldean, Trace Adkins, Matchbox Twenty, Daughtry, Pink, Chicago, Boston, Def Leppard, Big & Rich, Rodney Atkins, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, Journey, Bryan Adams, Van Halen, and Billy Joel.

Now I have Big & Rich, Shania, Taylor, Journey, and of course BJ on my MP3. I’m going to save some time NOT searching for Poison, Trace Adkins, Def Leppard, and Bryan Adams – the rest may take up the remaining space on the Sansa with downloads.

One of the toe tapping, shoulder rocking, finger pointing songs on the ‘Lost Highways’ album is “Whole Lot of Leaving” (“Make a Memory” is also good). Lyrics are below – enjoy the YouTube concert….

“Whole lot of leaving”

It’s pretty cold for late September
The autumn wind is creepin’ in
The summer sun packed up it’s long gone
There’s a whole lot of leaving going on

I’ll bet it’s warm in California
I think it’s time to hit the road
I just might call that band of gypsies
Go searching for our pot of gold
Seems like lately there’s a whole lot of leaving goin on

Chorus:
I close my eyes and picture your hand in mine
I still hear your voice, it takes me back to that time
Where I can find a reason to be strong
Seems like lately there’s a whole lot of leaving going on

Close the window, draw the curtains
You ain’t the only one here hurtin’
No one’s right, no one’s wrong
Lately there’s a whole lot of leaving going on

Chorus

Solo

You used to live to say you love me
Now you got one foot out the door
It’s then you turn around and ask me
Do we got it anymore?

I close my eyes and picture your hand in mine
I still hear your voice, it takes me back to that time
When I need a reason to be strong

I close my eyes and picture your hand in mine
Yeah I walk the line
You’ll never hear me say goodbye
So pretty baby please be strong
Seems like lately there’s a whole lot of leaving goin on

  1. Are you just now coming onboard with Bon Jovi? OMG! You did not know that I am Bon Jovi’s number one fan?????? My iPod is stacked with every song, but his latest stuff is by far the best. Next time we go to a Bon Jovi concert, I am buying you a ticket – you are coming with us. It is THE best concert I have ever been to – Dani says the same thing! Tony loved it, but still holds out for Keith Urban’s concert as numero uno. I am so excited to have you in the Bon Jovi fan club – he ROCKS!! (and countries!) :o) bec
