Weather was windy. Weather was rather chilly. Weather was climatically miserable. Family was there. Family was ready to party. Family was generally pleasurable.

OK…it was Mick’s 1st birthday last week Thursday, but we celebrated collectively on Sunday. Mick chose a day of 55° temperatures and a north wind gusting to 45 mph to gather everyone to watch him.

  And watch we did with a bunches of fun. We were in a City Park pavilion on the north side of town. Heroically, 20 or so friends and family braved the elements to party with the birthday kiddo; we all had hot dogs, hamburgers, and spare ribs; presents stayed in the car for good reason; a few of fought with two ACE Hardware tarps to create a windbreak for the rest (an Aunt Debi day-of purchase idea that was seemed to be well received by those that got cold the easiest). Good thing. Mick’s birthday party choosing showed to me this little guy has a sense of humor I’m already starting to like, alot.
