Luney Time

DFW experienced a lunar halo tonight. Buddy and girrrrrrrl friend K-Berr did a Facebook status so I grabbed my Canon and tripod and took a few quick shots (not very good ones I might add).

I then googled “ring around the moon” and came up with some acceptable explanation from the Farmers Almanac about “hexagon-shaped ice crystals, it is bent at a 22 degree angle, creating a halo 22 degrees in radius (or 44 degrees in diameter)”. And to that I said “cool”.

Now had I been watching Star Trek, I could offer up my explanation about a far-off star doing a supernova trick that, fortunate for all humankind, had the Earth’s warp speed orbit giving us a safe distance view of the phenomenon. And to that I say “B%#@ S&#$”).

Then I bothered the guys from work…while they were at home…with family…with a text message (probably giving them and spouses another reason to shake their head thinking just because I like to work odd hours doesn’t mean they have to – sorry guys/gals).

Tried to send my photo to the local Fox TV station but had technical problems with their uploading (it was a classic Raving Fan service where you request a forgotten password and they email a confirmation link that doesn’t work – thank the heavens – pun intended – for WordPress).

Big whup posting, but still kind of cool to look up and say “gee whiz Wally”.
