Sugar Sweet and Nestled

Did I mention the Jennifer Nettles and Jack Ingram concert I attend last Saturday? I’ll say it again – what a fun night that was! It was the best concert I’ve ever attend. 9 rows from the stage on the “Orchestra Right”, with an aisle seat. Yes! I sure we could see down Jennifer’s sore throat during her songs, we were so close (although a lingering cough and illness  didn’t stop her from belting and booming out vocals all through the night).

Ingram was on stage for about 40 minutes…did nearly as much talking as he did singing although his songs and stories were equally enjoyable. He sang new songs – none of the old hits (his and those he wrote for others).

Jennifer came on stage and sang Sugarland hits solo (more or less) and unveiled a couple of new songs while seated at a grand piano. Nice, huh Whit?. Yup, OFNi Whitney joined Deb and I. She laughed mostly at my sing-a-longs and I sure she enjoy an evening with the fuddy-duddy aunt and uncle of the family.

75 minutes later Jennifer walked off the stage…with a Lone Star flag in hand I might add. This was a benefit concert: Attic Community Playground – see Jennifer’s thank you on the Sugarland website. Jennifer brought only “Scott” with her to strum guitar and offer up the occasional harmony. Christian (Bush) would have been fun to watch and listen to, but then the night probably would have got too wild for the venue. Did I mention how much fun that night was?

But the night was not without annoyance. I’ve been asked to post pictures of the evening, but I can’t. The last three concerts I’ve attended (Sheryl Crow, Celtic Woman, and Chris Botti), cameras were not allowed. So I didn’t take my camera(s). I swear I was the only person that night not taking pictures…did I mention our seats were on the 9th row? We could count the buttons on Jennifer’s shirt we were so close. Uggghhhh!

Great night regardless. Putting Jennifer Nettles in a performance hall built for classical music – ooooo, ahhhhhhhh. No pictures, but I do have a iPhone recording or two of the night. If you get a chance to watch her from the 9th row, go! And call me – I’m there with ya! Did I mention I’m an even bigger Sugarland/Jennifer Nettles fan after that night? (and so is OFNi Whitney now too I bet).

  1. I was wondering how that turned out! I’m quite a fan. I wish I had known she was going to be there!!! And exactly how many buttons were on her shirt Tim? ;)
