Eli Ross May was the trooper of the day yesterday.
At Denver’s Children Hospital, Eli’s Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD) and a cleft of his Mitral Valve was repaired after about 5 hours of surgery on Friday. Everything went according to plan.
I’m sure Eli is really sore and they obviously have kept him sedated. All is well with everyone (except for a bit of exhaustion on the part of family) according to the two updates from OFB TR.
What great news. Thanks everyone for thoughts and prayers – keep them coming over the next several weeks.
Pictures from OFNi Tara

For those interested in a re-read, here’s Eli story from this blog Eli, our little man.
More pictures from OFNi Tara received today (10/2/08). I don’t intend to make light of what TK (Tough Kid) went through…but I have too. Otherwise it tears a guy up looking at these pictures and what all he went through just to be a normal kid. Love ya Kiddo. Thanks Tara for sharing.

Sunday 9/14/08: Eli continues to improve and heal. He’s aleart and only taking Tylenol for pain today. He may get to come home at the end of the week if all goes well.
Perhaps one of the family members can “comment” with Eli updates (hint, hint) throughout the week. If not, you’re stuck with my limited medical knowledge and explanations…but then if I ask is the little guy is feeling better and the answer is yes, what more do we need to know?

The little guy is doing well. TR sounded great today. I’m sure there is a bit of relief and comfort knowing all went as well as it possibly could. I know everyone is looking forward to getting back home.

ELI UPDATE: Tuesday 9/16/08. OFSIL Sue sends family and friends an email that Eli is being dismissed from Children’s Hospital this evening. He and his parents need to stay in Denver through the weekend before they go home but it still is wonderful news. Here this kiddo had open heart surgery 4 days ago and he’s well enough to leave the hospital. This, in my humble opinion, is a testament to the power of love, outstanding practice of medicine, hope, an Angel he will one day meet many years from now, prayers, thoughts, God’s grace, and youth. Eli has amazed me to no end on a strength and will he has yet to realize, and an ability to pull friends of friends, friends of family, and friends of everyone’s work place together into one big, celebrating, get-well-soon, on-going wish fan club that’s working collectively for us all. Someone remind me to rub this kid’s cueball head next time I see him…I want some of what he’s got going on. Thanks Sue for keeping us posted.

It is truly amazing how one little guy can pull family, friends, casual acquaintances, and total strangers together to help and love in anyway we can. He truly is a gift from God and will be blessed everyday of his life. His Angel has touched his life with her breath and spirit … as she continues to do for all of us. :o) Becky

I think Grandma Sue is happy…an email received today speaks to all of us:
Just wanted to let everyone know that Trevor & Kristie brought ELI home last night. YEA!!!!!! He looks wonderful, nice & pink & warm toes. Eli was in a great mood, just laughed & squealed when we would talk to him. He rolls all over the floor like nothing ever happened. He must still be somewhat sore, because he doesn’t want to get up on his hands & knees to crawl. The doctor took all of his sutures out yesterday & the chest x-ray, EKG, & heart sonogram looked great. The only restrictions they have are to keep his incisions clean & not to pick him up under his arms, because of cutting through the sternum. It felt so good just to hold him again.
I just can’t THANK YOU all enough for all of your prayers, thoughts, & emotional support through all of this. You mean the world to me & my family.
Love,
Sue
