A life lesson: always pee first before going on stage

Most of you know of the bond I have with my Scottie, Mackie, and of her bond with our family…that’s entirely on her terms. It’s a dysfunctional quality that is enjoyed every day (as she lays at my feet, licking her own, with total disregard for me telling her to stop). She brings a smile to my face and she knows all the buttons to push and strings to pull in maintaining an unrelenting grip on our household.

Friends and family have this breed: Gal Pal Jai Jai, although I’ve yet to meet them, has three personality-unique Scotties (her parents until just recently had 2 – now 1);  OFNi Sarah has adorable Wallace (rescued Scottie mix) and Kingston (rescued Schnauzer that thinks he’s a Scottie); OFSIL Sue B has the fun and funny Brodie; Friend Dawn has 2 black Scottie that love most to pose for photographs. I have yet to meet a Scottie that didn’t make me smile. In fact, at the Westminster Dog Show this year one did just that: a Scottish Terrier named Sadie competed for Best in Show.

Because of some stuff-shirted, Westminster bathroom don’t-pee-on-the-fake-grass protocol, her (Sadie) brilliant display of independence and defiance cost her the trophy. Those traits in themselves should have some merit for Best in Show. Unfortunately, the judge thought otherwise of those canine qualities (taking a leak in front of the crowd and a national television audience) for the award. I admire Sadie’s independence, just like I do Mackie’s (she is the Queen of Scots don’t cha know). The lesson learned here is universal: always pee your kids before “going” into a competitive situation. Hello…McFly?

Sadie’s “relief” occurs at the 18:30± mark in the video. Just know had it been Mac in that arena, she would have done the squat biz (she’s the peeingst dog I’ve ever been around) and then nipped at the handler’s toes and ankles for dragging her through her “event” – damn people, damn leash, damn collar she would think. It will make you chuckle – take a watch:  Westminster Kennel Club TV.

Thanks gal pal Jai Jai for the heads up on this incident – I found the video link on a favorite website of mine: Scottish Terriers and Dog News.

  1. What a cute blog! I love my dog just as much as you do, don’t cha know. He challenges me every day – and my response is always the same – “I Love Ya Mickey Joseph!” Being a bundle of energy in an 80+pound body is not always fair, so I tend to give him a break more often than most would. His love for Tony and me is an unconditional love – no matter how bad a day, no matter what you say or don’t say to Mikey, he’s just gonna love ya! :o) bec

  2. One thing about dogs…Scotties especially…they’re going to leave their mark one way or another. Mainly it’s on your heart and you’ll never forget them.
