It was Pi Day today…Who knew?

OFGalP Angela knew! She organized and conducted a Pie Pi Day contest at work today. That’s how we celebrated – dag-gum-it, we had pie!

About 8 pies were baked by co-workers and brought to work. Then the entire office chowed down and judged the winner. The winner was, appropriate enough, a Chess Pie, which I can proudly say I’ve met him and like him…a lot. Chess Pie kind of reminds me of a pecan pie filling. It should – it’s an old Southern favorite to those more versed in Pie-ology and (P)i. The judges all thought it was the math, strategy, and repetition of the pie’s never-ending favor extension that won over the stomachs of the bloated. Second place was a wonderful chocolate cream pie, and third place went to the delightful Blackberry Pie.

So after you get back from the grocery store with that frozen pie and vanilla ice cream, enjoy the Music of Pi. Yes, it’s mathematics with a tune…never sharp, never flat…doing the harmonic thing…striking the right chords…bridging the gap of arithmetic…doing major things with minor notice…sometimes with accompaniment, other times accapella, looking for treble but solid in its bass…musically loud with tenor…everything done in concert.

Who knew?
