Punxy Phil

It’s Groundhog Dog! Show’s over however.

In case you missed it…Punxsutawny Phil did not see his shadow, meaning our dreadful winter is about over, if you believe in the legend. I, for one, was ready for a cloudy day.

Ya know groundhogs are actually woodchucks – “Hey you dang woodchucks, quit chucking my wood!” (funny commercial). They’re also kin to the squirrel, so that means they dig and climb, and can even go for a swim if the need arises.

Aldo had it all together

Clear skies, 70°, and no sound of the neighbor’s lawn mower puts one’s butt in a patio chair in the back yard, dogs at your feet, a donned hat to shade the eyes (or protect the bald noggin), and you’ve blown the dust off a fine book worthy of an unseasonably warm January day read. Not too many books out there that fits that bill – maybe only one other… Continue reading “Aldo had it all together”

Pie in/on the face holiday(s)

Yes, I have pie on my face…for a couple reasons.

One, I failed to mention this past Sunday was National Pie Day. I like pie! Every January 23rd, the American Pie Council celebrates the heritage and tradition of pies. Any of you know…all the amateur pie bakers out there can join the APC for a mere $30-$40 membership fee (not sure what all you get for that…maybe a pie tin or something?) Or maybe just more pie recipes: Recipes for a belated celebration Continue reading “Pie in/on the face holiday(s)”

The Colonoscopy followup

Perhaps my favorite from my growing goofy sign collection of pictures….

Many of you have read and commented on the EHR: Colonoscopy Journal posting – this photo (in Fort Worth) seems only fitting.

Many of you have already seen this photo, but it is worthy of another look (note the business sign on the left, then read the sign on the right)…then grab your ankles….ugggghhhhh Continue reading “The Colonoscopy followup”

Sign Sign, Everywhere a Sign

It seems like every day of the week I get another of my way-too-many e-newsletters related to my profession, sometimes only ever so remotely related to the things I do (or better said: “want to”…maybe “should do”). So many I get that sometimes a quick click of the “X” in the toolbar without even a quick look-see is done just to keep the ol’ inbox manageable in size.  And here’s the bad thing…unless I skim through them for any thing of interest, I usually feel bad deleting them unread as if some person had really taken the time to compose, then send the email to me personally.

My Best Shot(s) of 2010

I took a whole bunch of pictures…I’m talking a big ol’ bunch of pictures last year (and the year before had around 15,000 snapped for that matter).

Somewhere  in the neighborhood of 19,000 pictures are stored on my computer (and backed up on two different portable hard drives) that have a 2010 date. So what the heck, I took took a stab at a Top 50 list. Let me know what you think.

New Year, New Look, New Directions

Happy 2010 to most everyone (just kidding…). It comes at a time on renewed enthusiasm and knowing the need to “finish” is most important…as was the teaching/sermon today Denton Bible Church (that will be a “Thump” post coming soon). So I wish you celebration, good times, and prosperity beyond the pocketbook. New Year. Continue reading “New Year, New Look, New Directions”

Hey Katy, Don’t Ever Look Back

OFNi Whitney is a champ at finding odd, funny, and sometimes even meaningful YouTube to share…well for that matter, all my nieces are champs at doing just that. I love my nieces as they keep me laughing and “hip” when it comes to current music (although they would most likely argue that last point).

Below is a Facebook posting shared by Whitters: this young man is just too funny not to keep sharing. +15 million hits on YouTube – you think he has a following?

Perhaps the lyrical content of KatyPerry’s song is not always welcome, but this kid is entertainment (or maybe he’s entertaining), especially the last minute of the video! Oh my belly hurts now.

And I don’t even want to know what apparel is on the bed over the kid’s right shoulder (don’t ever look back, don’t ever look back…LOL).

Check The Labels

Label Day is Tuesday…aka Election Day. Oh boy!

It is a day I’ve had circled on the calendar for some time, for more reasons than one. It should be a day filled with excitement and anticipation of new faces, voices, and representation, but instead it will be welcomed mostly because we should be due a brief reprieve from ridiculous campaigns, over-the-top out-of-their-mind activists, and the ugly game of politics finally comes to an end…maybe…but probably not. (and so it is that I get Labeled)

Scottie takes flight

Tonight I come home late from work, the girls (Mackie and Zoey) are impatiently waiting for one of us to come in the door to dish out the chow.  So quickly, I bowed to the Royalty and feed the girls, did a couple of quick chores, and clicked on the television.

Chimney Swifts. Know them? Cool birds that will literally dive bomb into an un-hooded chimney at dusk. It really is a sight to watch. They will aggressively buzz you before circling overhead and then do this full speed nose-dive into the chimney for the evening. Their “clucking” sound chirp is unique. They clutch and build nests on the vertical face of the walls.

Dave knows a few things

Let’s cast our vote for Dave Barry…he is still running for President. He’s better than any of the Re-puke-lican or Dumb-ocrat clowns I’ve seen in any of the races of late. Dave ought to make you laugh, only because of something funny, not laugh because we don’t want to cry over crooked politicians, a crappy economy, or whatever else gets you all worked up (and over).

Dave is a humorist, a funny man. An author and speaker, an entertainer, a philosopher. We all should lighten up,  relax and hear him out. Try to enjoy life instead of fearing the future and declaring doom. I like Dave.

Oh yeah, he’s a blogger as well…Dave Barry’s Blog

One of my favorites of his that I can so relate to: 19 Things That Took Me 50 Years To Learn, by Dave Barry Continue reading “Dave knows a few things”
