Minty Sweet

only my favorite in the whole wide world

Who knew? Today is/was Chocolate Mint Day…it just has to be a day celebrated by all, at the very least by those amongst us with a burgeoning waistline and having at least three dental appointments already scheduled in advance this year (that would be so like me in it’s description). Enthusiasm counts for something

On the UNT campus and directly across from the new football stadium under construction, I attended a Denton Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Luncheon today.  The featured speaker was Dan McCarney, the latest meanest greenest head coach for the University of North Texas. I wanted to speak with him afterwards, knowing most UNT football coaches in the past were always looking for someone to talk to after such an event, but the crowd surrounded the coach following the luncheon, apparently all wanting to literally rub elbows and become infected with his energy. So I went back to work on a beautiful, sunny, 79° Friday afternoon. Continue reading “Enthusiasm counts for something”

FD call reminded me of our trip

We did that trip last August. Deb & I drove to Philadelphia – she had a work conference – I went on into Brooklyn to deliver furniture and see FD and FSIL.

The FD took me to a way cool historic cemetery – Green-Wood – that she knew I would really like. She was right.

500,000 visitors a year; 7,000 trees; gardens; ponds; fountains; population is a non-complaining 560,000 folks founded in 1838.

This place even has a map!

Go if you can!  Continue reading “FD call reminded me of our trip”

The commercials and their game

So many times before, the Super Bowl commercials have out-played the teams at the NFL’s biggest event. I heard a statistic last week, from a media source I can no longer remember, that more than half the television viewers of the Super Bowl watch primarily to see the commercials. Now I sit down each year to watch the game, and will admit, many games have caused me to get refills, food, and frequent the commode during football play and be back in my seat in time for the commercials.

This year we were treated with a good game of football and commercials some are saying were lame. I say “hold onto your wallet that’s Jerry Jones walking by”. Wanna know my votes? Continue reading “The commercials and their game”

Chirping

Black-capped Chickadee

Something’s up.

We get a warm day for a change, the snow and ice pretty much melts away, reportedly some silly football game is about to be played soon in God’s Stadium (with the roof window closed I might add – you know who is gonna be mmmmaaaadddd!).

Cedar Waxwing
No, that’s not it entirely.

What’s got all the birds around here frisky, singing, and carrying on today?

Maybe the Groundhog told them about the coming of an early spring.

EIR: A Funeral of Which I’m Late For

This EIR (Email Inspiration Received) came from Deb. Some of you may have gotten it from her as well. It’s kind of a Sandra Bullock story, but ya know sometimes we need to just slow down and stop trying to look around whatever (whoever) is right in front of our face…by golly, let Sandra kiss us if that’s what she wants to do.

THE WRONG FUNERAL

God doesn’t make mistakes.  He puts us where He wishes us to be. They say there are no mistakes, for everything there is a purpose.  Makes you think….

Enjoy!  We’ll never know where our paths will take us!

The Day the Music Died

In an Iowa corn field 52 years ago today, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, The Big Bopper, and pilot Roger Peterson died in a tragic plane crash. Spared that night was Waylon Jennings who surrendered his seat to The Big Bopper, and backup musician Tommy Allsup by losing a coin flip with Valens for the other plane seat (In 1979, Allsup opened a Fort Worth nightclub called “Tommy’s Heads Up Saloon” as a tribute to his luck that night). It truly was a fateful night.

R.I.P. gentlemen – you’re music lives on, as Don McLean celebrates with his much interpreted/misinterpreted “American Pie”….
