Punxy Phil
It’s Groundhog Dog! Show’s over however.
In case you missed it…Punxsutawny Phil did not see his shadow, meaning our dreadful winter is about over, if you believe in the legend. I, for one, was ready for a cloudy day.
Ya know groundhogs are actually woodchucks – “Hey you dang woodchucks, quit chucking my wood!” (funny commercial). They’re also kin to the squirrel, so that means they dig and climb, and can even go for a swim if the need arises.
A snow day for most
Today it was cold, cold, cold, cold, cooooollllddddd for north Texas. It started with thunder-n-lightning rain about 3:30 this morning, then that turned to sleet about 4:30, and the wind chill was around 0°. Perfect weather for Mackie, Queen of Scots – she suggested we make the best of the day since there was no way the boss man was driving to Fort Worth today (and maybe tomorrow): Continue reading “A snow day for most”
Zoey, the Heir-Apparent
My apologies for the repeat, but I just had to give this first photo of Zoey its own billing. I had buried it in my “Aldo” post a couple of days ago because of the emotion in the stare and the content of the text I placed it in (stop me before I try to be creative again).
Thump 1-30-2011
Personal notes from a Sunday morning at Denton Bible Church:
Music:
- Everlasting God
- My Tribute
- Forever Reign
- Amazing Grace/Chains Are Gone (benediction)
Text Reading: Ephesian 2: 8-10 – there is not a gospel presentation that doesn’t have this verse or the essence of it in it; like John 3:16, Romans 5:8, Romans 6:23, Revelations 3:20…you just know this text. Continue reading “Thump 1-30-2011”
Aldo had it all together
Clear skies, 70°, and no sound of the neighbor’s lawn mower puts one’s butt in a patio chair in the back yard, dogs at your feet, a donned hat to shade the eyes (or protect the bald noggin), and you’ve blown the dust off a fine book worthy of an unseasonably warm January day read. Not too many books out there that fits that bill – maybe only one other… Continue reading “Aldo had it all together”
Ahhhh, Garrison
Quotes from Garrison Keillor, Prairie Home Companion (Jan 8, 2011 episode)
“better to be a rot-gut sinner than to be a little plaster saint…(it is better) to be a living breathing person” Continue reading “Ahhhh, Garrison”

Ya think he’s had his mailbox run over or baseball-batted a time or two? Continue reading “POW 1-27-2011”
Pie in/on the face holiday(s)
Yes, I have pie on my face…for a couple reasons.
One, I failed to mention this past Sunday was National Pie Day. I like pie! Every January 23rd, the American Pie Council celebrates the heritage and tradition of pies. Any of you know…all the amateur pie bakers out there can join the APC for a mere $30-$40 membership fee (not sure what all you get for that…maybe a pie tin or something?) Or maybe just more pie recipes: Recipes for a belated celebration Continue reading “Pie in/on the face holiday(s)”
Where have all the basketballs gone?
Long time (not) passing…or assists…or scoring…or team play.
Please know, I show you this with an admittedly sour attitude (no kidding!) after watching a woefully played basketball game between my beloved (KSU) Wildcats and the Baylor Bears last night. It was a game where fouls were as abundant as turnovers and charging calls…What is it that seniors cannot figure out when to “Pull-en” up for the shot or “Pull-en” it out and set a play. Geezz! Continue reading “Where have all the basketballs gone?”

So Long Jack
Sad news came over the weekend: the life juices for Jack LaLanne stopped flowing on Saturday. He was 96. Fitness and non-fitness folks alike lost a true champion. He was a pioneer in fitness from the 1960’s, and was still going “strong” until his death.
Yell, Yell, Yellow Yellowstone
According to a National Geographic, Yellowstone has an upset tummy. That’s all we need – a political climate in chaos, an economy that continues to stink up the place, and now a rebellious park with a tempermental disposition. And here I was all worried about global warming. Continue reading “Yell, Yell, Yellow Yellowstone”
Edgar
Those of you that follow my blog (or Facebook postings) may have read that Wednesday, January 19th, was Edgar Alan Poe’s 202nd birthday. I slathered y’all with an Edgar quote: “I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.”. I couldn’t help but chuckle over that, but like I habitually do, wanted to take it a step further.
Of all the days today could be…
…it ends up being Squirrel Appreciation Day. Gee Whiz I missed it. Yup, I had my slingshot at the ready and could have taken aim.
The National Wildlife Federation came up with the nuisance idea. What were they thinking? Huffington Post gave it some press – the photos at the bottom of the webpage link are worth checking out regardless of your tolerance level for the ornery mammals.
The Wolf Moon
Lapping it up for the fans
OK. Somebody tell me again what exactly is the sport, Lacrosse. I know, it’s where players run around with a webbed basket on the end of a stick, wear a hybrid football/hockey helmet, and fling a solid rubber ball at some wide-bodied bonehead standing in front of a goal. Hang with me here, there’s more!

Sugar Sweet and Nestled
Did I mention the Jennifer Nettles and Jack Ingram concert I attend last Saturday? I’ll say it again – what a fun night that was! It was the best concert I’ve ever attend. 9 rows from the stage on the “Orchestra Right”, with an aisle seat. Yes! I sure we could see down Jennifer’s sore throat during her songs, we were so close (although a lingering cough and illness didn’t stop her from belting and booming out vocals all through the night).
The Colonoscopy followup
Perhaps my favorite from my growing goofy sign collection of pictures….
Many of you have read and commented on the EHR: Colonoscopy Journal posting – this photo (in Fort Worth) seems only fitting.
Many of you have already seen this photo, but it is worthy of another look (note the business sign on the left, then read the sign on the right)…then grab your ankles….ugggghhhhh Continue reading “The Colonoscopy followup”
