Let it snow

Post Oak

We certainly don’t get this very often. Nor do we Texans like to drive in it. Tomorrow’s commute ought to be very interesting.

It started about 10:30 this morning as I was coming out of church…it lasted until 3:00. When it was all said and done, a measly 1″, maybe 1.5″ at the house is all we got.

But it still is “cool” to get the snow. It makes for great comic relief sometimes…other times a sticky snow does wonders for photographing a Post Oak.

My Best Shot(s) of 2010

I took a whole bunch of pictures…I’m talking a big ol’ bunch of pictures last year (and the year before had around 15,000 snapped for that matter).

Somewhere  in the neighborhood of 19,000 pictures are stored on my computer (and backed up on two different portable hard drives) that have a 2010 date. So what the heck, I took took a stab at a Top 50 list. Let me know what you think.

A Lunch Party

We did a celebratory lunch party for my good friend and co-worker Jeff’s passing of the P.E. exam today.

A bunch of us knuckleheads in Denton came together with Jeff’s family to enjoy food and fellowship…and cake.

I think most of Jeff’s family ended up shaking their heads at all of us. His four young kids (#5 on the way) are as cute as a bug’s ear and had I remembered to ask his permission to post their photos, I would have shared those with y’all – maybe soon, maybe soon. But it was a good time had!

Congratulations again Jeff. Go seal some engineering plans why don’t ya! Continue reading “A Lunch Party”

Singing for More Music

Did I mention I bought concert tickets yesterday? A next-Saturday special performance at the University of North Texas Murchison Performing Arts Center, in the Winspear Performance Hall will benefit the Attic Community Playground. That’s the swanky place for all the fine music performed at UNT and by their world renowned music college…wonder what I should wear? I’ve never been to that/those performance places and it’s maybe 13 years old and only 10 minutes up the road. WUWT? Continue reading “Singing for More Music”

New Year, New Look, New Directions

Happy 2010 to most everyone (just kidding…). It comes at a time on renewed enthusiasm and knowing the need to “finish” is most important…as was the teaching/sermon today Denton Bible Church (that will be a “Thump” post coming soon). So I wish you celebration, good times, and prosperity beyond the pocketbook. New Year. Continue reading “New Year, New Look, New Directions”

Woke Up Limeyfish

I probably should have self-censored. But instead it gotted git r’ done-d to me…maybe for the best…I’m sure…I hope. I cannot remember that ever happening to me until now. Always a first time, right? Say what you think unless what is said is disagreeable. Then just simply hit the upper right hand corner “x” button and that trouble conveniently goes away. Blip! Interesting how free speech really isn’t; anger can snuff out relationships with a few key strokes and mouse clicks; so-called equal opportunity rights of expression in a public format can be judged…quick and dead. Go away! Be gone! Continue reading “Woke Up Limeyfish”

Scottie takes flight

Tonight I come home late from work, the girls (Mackie and Zoey) are impatiently waiting for one of us to come in the door to dish out the chow.  So quickly, I bowed to the Royalty and feed the girls, did a couple of quick chores, and clicked on the television.

Chimney Swifts. Know them? Cool birds that will literally dive bomb into an un-hooded chimney at dusk. It really is a sight to watch. They will aggressively buzz you before circling overhead and then do this full speed nose-dive into the chimney for the evening. Their “clucking” sound chirp is unique. They clutch and build nests on the vertical face of the walls.

Dave knows a few things

Let’s cast our vote for Dave Barry…he is still running for President. He’s better than any of the Re-puke-lican or Dumb-ocrat clowns I’ve seen in any of the races of late. Dave ought to make you laugh, only because of something funny, not laugh because we don’t want to cry over crooked politicians, a crappy economy, or whatever else gets you all worked up (and over).

Dave is a humorist, a funny man. An author and speaker, an entertainer, a philosopher. We all should lighten up,  relax and hear him out. Try to enjoy life instead of fearing the future and declaring doom. I like Dave.

Oh yeah, he’s a blogger as well…Dave Barry’s Blog

One of my favorites of his that I can so relate to: 19 Things That Took Me 50 Years To Learn, by Dave Barry Continue reading “Dave knows a few things”

Big 8 – 2 + 4: The 2010 Saturday Football prognostications

It’s Saturday Football time and here we go with the annual Pig 12 pigskin forecast. I’m sure at least two of my faithful will weigh in on this – I hope a few more will as well.

Prediction highlight summary:

Texas falls to the 3rd best pro team in the State this year but exercise their new right to television broadcast their commercialism across the football nation. Jerry Jones becomes a huge UT fan as he sees yet another opportunity to make a few extra bucks – Jerry is rumored to have already invited the Longhorns to play in the Super Bowl come February.

Big 8 – 2 + 4: The 2010 Saturday Football Saga

I will admit, my procrastination this year in making predictions is all UT’s fault. Pardon me while I puke through my helmet ear hole as that one university single handedly sat down one day this summer and said “let’s scare the beegeebers out of everybody”. So they forearm shivered every other Little 11 teams in the noggin and gave their helmets a spin right there on top of their heads.

Big 8+4 has become the Big 8-2+4, the Little 10, The Big One (or as they say in Austin, “The Big Un”), The Longhorn League, The DeMac Conference, Conference Texas and The Others, The Big TeXas Conference. The new league logo is to have “The Others” mascots shown skewered on the horns of a grinning Longhorn.

EHR: The Real story of the three bears

Even though this EHR (Email Humor Received) from OFA Marilyn may be a bit (male) bashful, it is funny!!!

A far more accurate account of the events of that fateful morning:

Baby bear goes downstairs, sits in his small chair at the table. He looks into his small bowl. It is empty. ‘Who’s been eating my porridge?’ he squeaks.
